Time for Tires- Alaskan 92 RS
So warmer days are finally on the way, despite incredibly sunny days the temps are still in the `0*-35* range. Undaunted, I put the battery in, started her up, and am getting ready for an alignment and other maintainance.
Now I'm currently a broke college kid, so I have to balance quality with affordability.
From my research, summer tires loose traction at freezing temperatures because of the compound. I only drive the camaro in the summer, but I would like to be able to drive it fall/spring when the temps are around 30/40 and the snow hasn't fully hit or is mostly melted-but it's not a requirement. A summer only tire will force me to keep the car clean in the sun
I've of course looked at the board favorite Goodyear Eagle F1s, quoted $1000 at the Chevy dealer
My local tire has some firehawk wide oval tires on order in 245/50r16. I was quoted $620 for those. Big difference with the F1's.... I could buy the new convertible top I desperately need.
My car is an RS, so I won't be going TOO fast, but I'd like to have some fun . Gravel is a problem in alaska, and a decent amount of rain too...
I don't need amazing rain traction as long as I don't have to baby the car and stress out about dying, not sliding on the gravel is probably more important.
So what's a good tire? I'm leaning towards the Z28 245 size. I'd like to be happy with the firehawks because of the price. My local dealer also has Fuzion ZRi tires for the same $620
I could also probably get BFG super sports for a good price, so what do you guys think/have/like?

Firehawks wide ovals. Do it. Friend has em on his 89 GTA and hes very happy with em. They also have a nice wide tread, looks much wider than a regular 245.
You won't be disappointed with them if you go with them. I ran Riken Raptors in a 245 size and for the price they were great. I believe they were $99-$110 a tire. I do however plan to go Wideovals if I stick with stock wheels.
