15x7 front 16x8 rear?
I'm shopping for new shoes for my 84 Z28. I want all black rims and bigger tires on rear. All I've been able to find is a set that is 15x7 and 16x8. Everything is stock on my camaro.
Has anyone used this combo?
Also what are the biggest tires I can fit on front and back without rubbing?
Pics would be great!

I've never heard of anyone using that combo personally, but getting a 245-50-16 tire to fit the 16" x 8" wheel is becoming extremely hard to do these days - forget about getting matching tires for the 15" and 16".
I would recommend for you a 17" x 9.5" wheel along with a 275-40-17 tire all around - lots of tire choices and much improved traction and handling.
Here's a few pics:

I agree with Paul, except the choice of wheels, those are $1100 for the set. And there are still a dozen choices of 245/50R16 available. But if you put those on the rear, then what could you put on the front, on a 15x7, that wouldn't look goofy? Either the tire sidewall height will look wrong, or the tire will leave the wheelwell looking very empty. Besides, small front tires don't help cornering, they hurt.

Actually there are 16 tires available between Tirerack and DTD as of today:
11 all season
3 high performance summer
1 drag radial
1 road race tire
Considering that one would not want to run DR or RR tires everyday and all seasons are pretty horrible when it comes to performance, you are left with only 3 reasonable choices, one of which runs $250 per tire.
That being said, the 245-50-16 has been steadily decreasing in available options the last few years. I would not invest in a set of wheels that in a few years you will have only 2 or 3 tire choices to pick from.

Hey Kevin,
That is the "Old School" way of doing tires. It was before we learned about handling! And as far as price goes, you really do get what you pay for. I would wonder what that combo would handle like? If you want to go at it on a budget just buy a set of 16" IROCs used. State of the art circa 1985! I have to agree with Paul, tire choices are limited in a 16. What do you plan to do with the car?

I don't race the car or take it to the track. I just want a fast, good-handling, good-looking camaro. I live in the mountains so lots of winding roads. Handling is very key!!!
I've almost come to a final decision on what I want, please let me know what you think and all suggestions are welcome...
I think I'm going 15x7 with 245/60/15 on front
and 15x8 with 275/60/15 on rear
I found some black steel wheels and gonna paint her flat black-want a tough, mean look

Not to stereotype, but the Nascar look isn't the hot ticket. 245s really want 8s, 275s want 9s that aren't available in cheap steel. For handling on mountain roads, you really want some 295/35R18s on some 10.5" wheels, front and rear. Plus then you can fit some adequate brakes, rather than only having a couple of choices for trying to fit 12" brakes in your 15" wheels.

I agree, tire fitment is key. 18x10.5's sound good but they must be custom or use some type of spacers. Anyhow both options will be expensive. That would make the CTW's I got seem very reasonable, All 4 tires, wheels and lug nuts under 2k. Awesome handling upgrade for the price.
