I've been looking for months to find a wheel that will use a modern size, so I can run a modern tire (RS3, Star Spec, Rival, Neova AD08 R) I'm currently running Ronal R15s of which only two decent tires are available; Azeni RT615k and Kuhmo Ecsta XS, and the Kuhmos are now on national back order.

I would ideally like to run a 18x10 wheel, but none that I can find are the correct offset and backspacing; most would require a 2" spacer. I mostly autocross, with the occasional track day, and I really don't want to rely on adapters. Does anyone know of a wheel that fits?

 

There are bmw wheels with similar fitment for the rear in that size. Front no
I had a set of apex arc8 wheels on my 92. 18x10.5 with a 27mm offset. Fit the rear with a 10mm spacer, but will fit without if you do a little sheet metal removal/relocation.
had them on the front too with custom hubs and no spacers.

I dontk now what your price range is... but I figure if I couldnt afford CCW's... I'd go for some Weld RTS wheels.

Unfortunately the 275-40-17 size does not have the newest tire patterns as you mentioned, but keep in mind that you can also run a 255-45-17, which has a few choices also. It is still light years ahead of 245-50-16, which is down to 1 summer tire worth anything.

As you probably know by now, I am the owner of CTW Motorsports and while we make 17" x 9.5" wheels, we have 18" x 9.5" (or 10") on the radar - would be perfect for you, but right now there isn't enough interest to pull the trigger on having tooling made and sent to production.

PERIOD. Your stuff is very VERY nice, but I need an 18 so I can put 275front 285 rear for pro-touring applications. Rivals don't come that big.

So, IF it's on the radar and you need a test mule. I'll PAY for it NOW.

Unfortunately it isn't that easy!

It will take about 8 weeks to get the wheel design engineered correctly, plus the cost of the dies for 18" (not the same as 17" and a big investment), plus the time for production and also for shipping. At least 6 months, if not 8 or 10 for a new wheel.

However, we are going to keep looking that size and see how the interest is and we will pull the trigger on the side of optimism.

Why not try out a set of 255-40-17 ones? They will be a little narrower and shorter than a 275-40-17, but will work on our wheels.

 

I think 17s look better on these cars than 18s... but I think the time is coming where 18s are the sweet spot. I finally got some 17s, but it sure would be nice to have some wide 18's at all four corners. Especially CTW style.

 

i don't care WHAT it looks like.. my car is a race car and it's used for 1 purpose. The MOST tire I can put under my car will mean TIME and that's what i'm after. I would run ugly steelies if I had to. Just need to get 285 under rear and 275 under front. I can do that with a 18 x 9.5 wheels. The tires I want to run, cannot be purchased on a 17" x 275 format so I am stuck. 6 weeks would be AWESOME paul.. Should I call and give you a credit card number now? (ha ha). I could use them in February / March actually.

EDIT: I went back and read your post paul. You said 6 months, not 6 weeks... ARGH. FOILED again...

Brian - yes 6 months minimum once I pull the trigger. Keep in mind that the amount and cost of wheels we need to get is huge - I can't order less than 200 at a time and 300 gets me the best prices. Now it can be any combo of wheels - 17", 18" 17" x 8", whatever... 300 wheels is 9 pallets 8' high!

Sorry to disappoint, but we need to make space before we can make an order of that size right now.

 

I understand completely. You gotta run a business and I get that. I'm in the software business, so we just buy more disk drives and store it, but physical things like wheels require forklifts and shelving. I did meet a couple of new third gen's this weekend and told them about your wonderful wheels, i expect you'll be getting some orders because your stuff is the best. I guess if I help you burn thru current inventory that will get me faster to the 18 wheels i need to order.

Ccw claimed they couldn't build me a set of sp500's to fit a 3rd gen with ls brakes on all 4 corners.

 

Not sure who you talked to at CCW but they can make any wheel in whatever dimensions you like. They charged me 100$ extra per wheel to make my set a one off with a thicker hat for a BBK. I am pretty sure if you provide the measurement they will build it. The most i had to provide was the dimensions of my hubs. But if i could do it all over again i would take the extra time to save up and buy a set of Forgelines or HRE's. If you are going to spend that much on wheels might as well get the best out there.
