So I'm really looking at getting a set of the Toyo Proxes R888 tires from TireRack for my Ronal R15s (275/40ZR17):

Does anyone else here run these? My suspension if fully modded using all Moog, KYB, Spohn, Kenny Brown, and Eibach components. Brakes are also upgraded running slotted/cross drilled rotors with Hawk ceramics (I was running Hawk blacks with the old rotors).
I never commute in my car, it's pleasure only and not on flat straight roads, always windy mountain roads which are fairly high speed that I have more than memorized over the past 16yrs lol.
What camber would you guys suggest to get the most out of these tires? -1.5? I don't want the fronts to wear from the camber before the tread runs out tho and I'm not going to be on a true race track with them. Also what tread mileage would you guys expect with these, 5K? What pressure would you run on these in my case? Toyo recommends 32-38psi hot, I'm thinking like 38psi since it will be aggressive street use and I want them to heat up sooner than later.
I'm having my alignment done next week and want to get it setup properly in anticipation of these tires.
Thanks!
EDIT: or what about even the Proxes RA1? http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....rtnum=74ZR7RA1
The RA1 tire seems to have the full 8/32" tread depth which is allot better than the 6.4/32" of the R888. Looks like Toyo suggests a much more aggressive camber setting tho with the RA1. Reading on other forums it would seem the RA1 tires are squirmy when not shaved and run at full tread depth where as the R888 are not. Although the RA1 has a deeper tread which could also account for this.
Thoughts? Opinions? I only care about maximum handling and traction in the twisties, nothing else. I'm still leaning towards the R888 I think, which is the RA1's replacement anyway I believe. I like the extra tread depth of the RA1 though although everyone is saying they end up lasting equally as long. But Toyo says I can go much less extreme on my camber with the R888 which is good for my non-track driving. Decisions decisions...
My options for a DOT comp tires are pretty limited in that tire size...

The RA1 is the grippier of the two you mentioned and is the spec tire for CMC racing.
Several CMC racers on our wheels and those tires typically generate cornering forces in the 1.4g range.
If I read correctly, your brakes are stock sized, but upgraded? If not, your car will be under braked by a huge amount - compared to the tire grip available with those tires.

Reading this entire blog entry I think I'm sold on the R888:

Far as the brakes, yeah I know, exactly the reason I'm not ready for the local SCCA track yet lol. A significant brake upgrade is on my agenda when I do my ProCharger next fall. I'm going to upgrade to the largest I can fit inside the R15 wheels. I don't have a death wish but I am on a budget and it's taken me years just to get this far haha!
So, R888 and I'll go with -1.5 on my front camber. Now I just need to figure out what temps I should be running them on the street. I'm thinking 32f cold, should give me about 38f hot on the street I think. Suggestions? I'm going to pay TireRack to heat cycle them too.

I've used R888's on both my old 4th gen's & on my old M3. R888's are one of the better dot approved R tires out there for the $. They have excellent grip in dry weather; and are surprisingly good in the rain (considering what they are).
When I get the wheels I want; these tires will most likely go on my 3rd gen as well.

I run the R888's on the street as well. I am at almost 8K miles with them and they still have lots of tread left. Great tire, my only complaint is the noise and stiff sidewall. They tend to knock your teeth around on bumpy roads.
I forgot to ask you guys what tires pressures you are running?
I've I've decided instead of the R15 wheels I'm going to go with the new 17" crosslace wheels from Hawk's. Lighter and I won't have to alter the factory look which I like.

R888.....all day long. Best tire I've ever run, I wouldn't put anything else on my car.
SWEET! I'm totally stoked to get these tires now!
Thanks!

R888 are good from what Iv seen I myself have to get them for my 20' tsw rims I got on my 01 TA toyo and Pirelli are the only companies that make the size I need to fit my 20x10 rear rims I need 315/30/20 tires to clear and have room to be safe incase of a bump and they want $800 -$1000 apiece for the pirelli so thats out the question the r888 I can get for $750 a pair and look better I think..... long story short the R888 are a good tires for the price grippy in all kinds of situations and long tread life
I know this is a little over a year old, but I'm also considering a set of R888's (275-35-18), and wonder if anyone has anything new to say about them.
I'm also considering the BFG G-force R1's, but they are more expensive and since there is a small possibility of getting caught out in the rain, I'm leaning toward the 888's. Most of the "street" miles will be on the way to/from the track (30+ miles each way).

I've got the R888's on my 92 RS. 255/50R16's on the stock 16x8's. Check out my suspension in my vBgarage. I autoX and occasionally do an HPDE. I haven't done a HPDE with them yet but they cut over 2 seconds off my lap time in autoX. I love the R888's. I can't recall exactly what pressures I settled on with them, but I think it was around 42 front and 33-35 psi rear.
Here's some great alignment specs for our cars.

Just curious, what did you run before the 888's?
I used to run the old BFG R1's and really liked them.
They quit making them in the size I was using so I switched to the Kuhmo V700 VictoRacers. The V700's were ok, but had to be warmed up more than the R1's to work and eventually got so hard (after several years) that they were useless.

BFG Sport Comp 2's, 245/50R16 fronts, 255/50R16 rears. Bought them before I learned about third gens not liking a staggered set up, but didn't seem to hinder my performance.
Those look like pretty decent Summer tires. Two seconds compared to those isn't bad.
