18" 90's ZR1 Wheels

I know there used to be a company that made them, but as I understand it they were not high quality, and they've gone out of business? I really love the look of ZR1's on third gens, but I really want 18" rims because I can put 14" brakes in them.

Anyone know the best solution here? Is there a company that makes some knock offs or something? Or is there a company that would modify the ZR1's to be 18's? What is your opinion on doing this? Is it very expensive to modify them?

I'm not an authority on that type of wheel - although others may have the answers you seek.

It will either not be possible (or would be prohibitively expensive) to convert a 17" wheel to an 18" one as you are thinking to do.

But there are options to fit your car - some are direct bolt-ons, others require spacers.

Would you go for a 17" wheel? CTW Motorsports makes a 17" wheel that will fit 14" brakes and has a similar design to the ZR1 wheels.

Yea only 17" unless you go all out custom
There where thirdgen specific zr1 style very rare but also 17"

As far 14" brakes there other options like wilwood and new c7 brembo can fit 17" also now you can grind the 14" brembo to fit under 17" wheel depending on barrel design

Re: 18" 90's ZR1 Wheels

I like the ZR1's because of the looks, now there was a guy on LS1tech.com that modified the 14" Rotors with modified CTS-V calipers under ZR1 rims. So that might be an option:

http://ls1tech.com/forums/suspension...s-17-rims.html

As for the ZR1's with the Thirdgen backspacing, I am not a fan of those because they don't offer 11" Rear and if I remember right they're only 8" in the front too. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

I don't mind spacers, hundreds of people have run them, and even raced on them safely.

I'll check out CTW Motorsports for sure.

Re: 18" 90's ZR1 Wheels

Yes I know couple guys that done it it's alot of grinding to do so I would consider look at c7 brake setup tho

It is a heavy setup compared to other 4 pot on the market but If I did it again I would of did the c7 setup

And wheel you can widen to your liking

Also keep in mind that with that brake setup I would recommend running atleast 9.5 or even better 10 all around to take advantage of the stopping power I had 9.5 with sport cups and tires would scream near max braking effort

Iirc the zr1 thirdgen specific where 9.5 as well
Iroc repro are 8

Zr1 cam in 9.5 or 11 rear not all where 11

Re: 18" 90's ZR1 Wheels

Keep in mind that if all you are going to do is keep the ZR1 spoke area and rebuild the rest of the wheel, you can go 9.5", 10", or even 11" if you want. The hot ticket would be an 10.5" wheel with a 295-35-18 tire on all 4 corners, which has been done.

If you want to drop $1k/wheel, I can set you up with a custom wheel maker who can cut any style wheel at any size in aluminum billet. Then again, you could get a forged 3pc wheel for that price also.

Re: 18" 90's ZR1 Wheels

Yea, there were "ZR1" or "Grand Sport" Rims, which were all 9.5 front 11 rear, and then there were "SS" Rims which were 9.5 all around all were 4th gen/C4 backspacing.

The thirdgen ones were very odd, and I seem to remember them being 8" and looking slightly off.

the CTW Motorsports wheels look ok looking straight on, but I don't like the dish of them, maybe they'll grow on me, but right now I'd rather just have ZR1's with spacers. I already have a 4th gen rear, so it would just be in the front.

Not sure I'll ever drop that kind of money to have the wheels custom done, but its always a curious choice.

Too bad you weren't closer and wanted 17" ZR1's. I am running 17x11 rears and 17x9.5 fronts with spacers only in the front.

Re: 18" 90's ZR1 Wheels

I haven't quite decided, I may go with a set of 17" ZR1 or SS rims to just use until my LS swap, then later go with OE Y2K deep dish 18" wheels later.
