215/60R16 with these wheels on a 1990 formula?

Hello, I'm rather new to this forum so please correct me if I'm doing anything wrong.

I just purchased a 1990 firebird formula, and the tires are too big and keep rubbing against the fender. I was thinking about getting these 16" wheels (currently they are 15") and Yokohama Avid Ascend Size 215/60R16.

I was told by another forum that these tires are good with these wheels, but I went to discount tire and they claim that the wheels will rub against the car because of the offset.

Would these tires and wheels fit together on this car well? If not, what tires would you recommend? I'm not really looking for racing or anything like that either, just durable tires that don't look bad.

You want these
10104411 - 16" X 8" Black GTA Style Alloy Wheel with 5" Backspacing and 16mm Offset

And any tire in the 245/50-16 series
BFGs Comp Force
Cooper
Kumho

225/55-16 works well also.

Several times more tire choices in this size compared to 245-50-16. Good choice in 2017, honestly.

Difference is 20mm or about 0.80" in section width - almost a perfect match in overall diameter.

A lot of people will buy two extra front or rear wheels so they have a square setup where they can rotate their tires. I personally bought an extra set of crosslace wheels and now run front wheels (0 offset) on all four corners.

I've got no fitment issues running 245/50R16 BFG's.

215/60R16 is way to thin.
at the very least the 225/55-16 as suggested.

Even with the new set of tires and wheels its never a good idea to max out the steering wheel. Cranking it to the max is hard on the system.

These cars turn/back up/turn/ like a "truck". The turn radius is really bad.
Your going to have to get used to that.

0mm front and +16mm rear offset were what all third gen 16" wheels were originally. You did well to get second and third opinions.

Four zero offset wheels would work. Four + 16mm wheels would work, minor shim spacers might be used, and they actually were on some 16" wheel / drum third gens in the rear.

Since 16" third gen wheels are probably visible on a few examples of cars near you, go look at some cars. If you can imagine wheels marked "rear" ( in the IROC 5 spoke wheels) being mounted about 5/8" further out, that is what four 0mm offset "front" wheels would do for you. And tire rotation would be simple.
