IROC rim question
Hey guys I've got an 85' Trans Am that came with 16" IROC rims. One of the rears is cracked and needs replacing. I found someone selling 2 front rims. I read that the rims were different, with a positive offset on the front to clear the tie rods and the rear having zero offset. This would mean that fronts could fit on the rear but rears would not fit on the front. Is this correct? Thanks!

A rear wheel will rub if installed on the front.
What color are your wheels ?? I might have a spare 85-87 Grey IROC rear still.

Yes but will a front wheel be fine if put in the rear? Mine are gray, I'd be happy to buy one if you've got one.

Re: IROC rim question
On my Trans Am, I have a set of four front GTA wheels on all four corners so I can rotate them and I think it looks a bit better with the rear wheels sitting more flush with the fender.

Re: IROC rim question
I have a full set off a 89. Feel free to PM if you're interested. They're in good shape. The previous owner clear coated them and it is starting to come off and looks a bit funny. But I can send pics. I will be posting them for sale otherwise soon.

Re: IROC rim question
Thank you for the offers and support guys. I ended up buying a pair of fronts from my usual guy. They look great and even came with some bald tires that I get to go burn off. Lucky me!

Re: IROC rim question
Front rims have 0 offset, rear 16mm. That means the rears have 16mm deeper backspacing and if they're mounted on the front may rub on the tierod ends or worse. Once when I got a new set of tires the shop switched the wheels back to front on one side. I noticed it right away and told them. The tierod end had scraped the balance weights off.
I honestly don't know why GM did that because front wheels on the back look just fine. In fact, it's desirable to have front wheels on all 4 corners because you can rotate the rires without stripping them off the rims.
