Tire Selection

Hello all, hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year.
I'm getting to the point in my build that I actually might be able to drive the car soon, it's been a long time coming.
The car will see quite a bit of street driving and hopefully some autocross in the spring/summer, the plan is eventually to get a track only set of wheels and tires but for now I need a set of tires that can can kinda pull double duty. My budget it $750, I'll be using work points rewards to get Amazon gift cards to fund it, So I am limited to Amazon's selection. Would anyone have any experience with the Nitto NT05's? these fall within my budget and selection. Interesting enough I bought a set of used NT05's for $50 for mock up, they hold air but I don't feel comfortable taking them down the street.

Re: Tire Selection

When I purchased tires for my TA a couple years ago, I compared the NT05 and NT555. I ended up going with the NT05s because it's a high performance summer tire (only driving on nice days to cruises / shows). I just got my car running before winter so I can't comment on how they ride or hold up. A guy I work with told me he had these and they didn't hook up very well. He has a 600HP procharged 2000 TA. He just upgraded to Micky Thompsons on the rear.
Guess I'll see how these perform this summer. I'll get something different if I need to after these are burned up.

That's what I'm hearing from a few different people that I've talked to.

Re: Tire Selection

I have Nitto 555s on one of my cars and I like 'em, but the car gets driven only during summer...

Re: Tire Selection

I had Nitto NT05 on front of my car and it was fine but the tire got hard and slippery in just a couple years. I now have Falken RT660 and those tires are on a whole different level and also have lost some grip after a couple years but they have so much grip that it's still better than a new NT05.

I think I'm gonna go with the Nitto NT555 G2's, I've had a number of people suggesting these.
