E-Z Spare
Has anyone on this forum made the investment in an E-Z Spare?
I have basically 3 vehicles with no spare tire. My wife's Saturn Sky, which just comes equipped with an air pump and a can of fix-a-flat, The 91 TA Vert which came with one of those totally collapsible spares, which of course is 33 years old. I actually aired it up, and it's all cracked and just gets a cantaloupe sized tumor in one place, and then the "space saver" on the 94 TA Vert, which does hold air and looks OK, but I dare not use because it's 30 years old.
This would just be a "rescue spare." In other words the person who is not stuck brings it to the person that is, or, if I decide to take the car on a long trip, I'll throw it in the trunk.
The beauty of this is that the same one is spec'd for all 3 cars.
Opinions much appreciated.
Thanks!

Seems like a good idea. I don't understand their warranty though. A "lifetime warranty" described as a "3 year limited lifetime".....

Interesting. I like that the rim is RED!
And a NEW spare is a good thing.
Seriously though, I never liked aftermarket wheels in the '70s/'80s that were "uni-lug" designs. I see slots where I would like to see holes for the suds and lug nuts, so I'm not sure how these mount.
Also, what is that torx bit driver looking tool that is pictured with the wheel?

Hey Dave!
I think the torx bit is just a canned image on the site, that would not be applicable to any of my 3 intended uses. As far as the slotted holes, I would have to buy 2 sets of 5 "fillers." One set for both TAs, and one set for the Sky. I'd also need 2 "Hub adapters."
All that being said, I've decided to go a different route.....12V air compressors and plug kits in each vehicle, (the Sky already has a compressor,) and a guarantee from my insurance companies, (Hagerty's for the TAs and Progressive for the Sky,) that their road service DOES include flatbed towing, if I so request it.

Re: E-Z Spare
So they really are the classic old uni-lug type design, using oval washers. Fascinating. Everything old is new again! I don't love that, or the hub adapter, but I could live with it as a spare that will likely never hit the ground.
I always liked plugs, although most place patch these days. My problem is as I've gotten older, I no longer have the hand strength to install plugs. Plunging that file through the belts of a tire is not easy, especially laying on the ground, on the side of the road.
A junkyard inflator kit is cheap, light and compact insurance...the same conclusion manufacturers reached many years ago.

Yeah Dave....what's old is new again.
I actually prefer patches to plugs, and that's what I always have done.
I'm concerned, if ever it happens, about piercing the steel belt with a plug. I'm almost 70, and although my hand strength is good, the evidence that i abused my body in my youth, (or genetics,) has come to haunt me and ive had 9 orthopedic surgeries that let me know im not as young as i used to be....
That being said, I still do everything I possibly can that I have the knowledge, capability, and tools to do.
