Brand new to this amazing third Gen forms. I have 1986 Camaro IROC, that I bought in 1990. It has been sitting the last ten years do to family life. Last year my 20 year son old convinced me to bring it out. Had the transmission and rear end rebuilt last year. This year was planning on putting on new tires. Currently I have Goodyear eagle GSC on the 16" rims. I know the tires are past there recommended date, as I believe purchased in 2013. Just wondering what tires member's of this form recommend? I do live in Canada, but close to the border if I have to go across.
Thank you

Re: Recommended tires
The 16x8 wheels on your IROC-Z would want a 235/55 R16 or a 245/50 R16.
I used the Tire Rack for examples. Buy where ever you want.
I wouldn't trust my or your life on commie built Southeast Asian "Hung Flung Dung" cheapo tires. Tires are the 100% most important part on a car and your life hangs in their balance.
If your are mainly going to cruise around in your car and drive like a normal human being you can get a little bit smoother ride with the 235/55 R16.
For what it is worth, I have a set of each, BF Goodrich and Generals. I personally like the General G-Max RS better of the two, mainly based on the "look" on the car. Can't go wrong with either though!
stepping 'down' to 225s do offer more choice and I presume newer tyre technology (going by the brands that have offerings in the 225 size); how much that actually counters the smaller width IDK. I've decided to go this route as 245 options have pretty much dried up in the UK. To confuse things further, other members and I have observed varying actual widths for the same stated width by manufacturers
Have 225 hankooks, and 225 'point s' (don't ask) on mine and the Point S tyres are noticeable wider and inline with prior 245 kumho tyres I had...
I saw it first on a Facebook ad. People were complaining about the lack of wider sizes, and the rep mentioned more 16" sizes would be coming this spring. Maybe something for us? Just a rumor for now.
Thank you to everyone who replied to my post. I looked up the current price in Canada for the two of the suggested tires, Goodrich g-force comp $301 and the General gmax RS $243. My car has only seen summer month, but has been caught in the rain. My question is has anyone had any issues with hydroplaning with either of these tires? I know when I first purchased my car the, I felt the original gatorbacks had a tendency to hydroplane.

My experience is that both the Goodyear and General handle rain pretty well as long as you are sensible.....

Re: Recommended tires
I'm just going by the info posted on Tire Rack's website. Things change all the time and info could be outdated. I just checked again and it claims they are made in CZ, The Czech Republic or Czechia as they like to call themselves now.
If you look at most tire brands and just one model of tire they offer most of the time different sizes of the same tire will be made in different countries.
On my daily driver it takes a 16" tire also and I get a Walmart house brand called Douglas that are made for Walmart by Goodyear. The tire size that my car takes is Made in Canada and also some other Southeast Asian country. I always buy the freshest set of tires they have in stock and only the Canadian made tires. On the sideway they say Made in Canada and have the Canadian Maple Leaf logo. I know the guy that runs the service center and he lets me pick out the ones I want because he doesn't care which ones I get but he ain't digging through the racks to find them for me.
