Remove the four bolts on back to open the two sides of the housing. Take note of the "clocking" as this can be changed id you don't pay attention. Clocking refers to the position of the plug relative to the threaded mount. In this case, my alternator is at 3 o clock. (Not well shown in pic)

The key tool for removal turned out to be the red-handled pick. Beefy enough to really help with the torque to break the inside piece loose. Put the pick into one of the grooves of the innards and twisted. Worked it back and forth with some more penetrating oil and eventually it worked free. Crusty on those threads!

Finished. Whole job took maybe 20 minutes. Letting plate cure overnight before assembly and installation.

Hey, if I straightened these four little tabs, the cover plate can separate from the housing and the paint job will look even better! I might need professional help...

I did not think to take a true "before" picture, this is after a bit of sanding. The plate wasn't too bad, a couple areas of chipped paint and some surface rust around the lip.

Waiting to unstall the faceplate after center console is in place, minimizing the chance of scratching it up. Want to rry some wet sanding on it too.,

Next job is to clean up this crap-tastic example of wiring. Making good, solid connections with solder is so easy to do adter just the least bit of practice. Guess this one isnt the worst I have seen - the parts car had house-style twidt nuts connecting the wires.
