Poeple who powdercoat: couple questions
I want to start powdercoating my own parts for my various projects, and I have a couple of questions for the guys who have been doing it for a while:
What kind of gun do you recommend? Will the cheap-looking Harbor Freight rig do a decent job, or is there a better one to get?
Where can you get the various colors of powder? How much powder does it take to do an average job, say, a carb intake?
Is it really as easy as it sounds, or is there an "art" to it that will take time to learn?
Thanks guys....

I don't see why....the first order of business is to powdercoat the StealthRam that's going in the RS when I swap her back to EFI.
The second order of business is to coat the intake and serp. brackets for Lisa.
I'll shoot you a mail anyway though. Thanks.

It's very easy to do. Check out a place called Caswell ...they have a fairly inexpensive kit that's supposed to be better than the Eastwood one. They carry many, many colors of powder as well.

Yep, that's the one. Looks just like the Harbor Freight gun.
I like the look of Eastwood's $99 gun....just wish it wasn't siphon feed. I'm not a big fan of siphon feed, at least for paint.

Trigger likes to stick if air psi gets to low or too high.
I didnt like the foot pedal activation.
just little crap like that.. The powder was the main complaint.

Not worth MY time and hassle... You would have to re Tape it every time you do a color change. add more powder etc.
Thats not sayin that gun wont be good for you. These are just my personal opinions..

It seems to me that powdercoating would be excellent for a car's exterior. Of course, you wouldn't be able to do our urethane bumpers or GFX pieces or anything, but the chassis could all be done with a rotisserie and heat lamps, at least in theory.

the prob is you have to bake the paint at 400* for 10 min after it starts to gloss and it may take some time for the glossing to start so at this point all your wires are mellted after that the clean coat wich needs to be baked at 340* for 15 min. i gess it is posiable if car is bear.
