tpi/tbi walbro fuel pump the same?

looking at this racetronix fuel pump kit for my tbi firebird:

http://www.racetronix.com/product/RX..._Pump_Kit.html

do you use the same pump on a tpi and a tbi f-body?

if not, does anyone have the walbro part number for the correct pump for our cars?

Externally they are the same but they are completly different. TBI pumps can only support about 16psi of pressure and TPI's are capable of 40+. Try a search for a walbro part number.

Or you could just reduce the pressure with a regulator....I think quite a few people have used that tpi pump for the tbi setup without any problems, I actually bought one from racetronix and they said it wouldn't be an issue as long as your return line was big enough...

Get the Walbro 255. I even run the high volume one. If you ever want to build a high hp 8-injector setup in the future you'll kick yourself for not going with the best one now.

that makes sense. i have a vafpr, so controlling the pressure won't be a problem

what afpr are you using? I've already bought the GSS340M from them in preparation for my LS1 swap and am currently using TBI. I've been having a hard time trying to find a afpr that I think will work.

Thanks,
Wayne

i bought the kit from top down solutions:

http://www.top-downsolutions.com/pro...7938c736d01632

it's specific to a tbi, though ... don't think it'll work on an ls1

The LS1 doesn't have a pressure regulator as it does not have a return line to the tank.

wow, thanks, that's what I was looking for. But for $85 I'll wait to swap the pumps. If mine finally dies, I'l get it so I can use the Racetronix. If I get the LS1 before my fuel pump finally goes, then I'll do the swap.

LS1 has no return? humm, what do you do with the return line?

Thanks,
wayne

Thanks guys,
Wayne

Don't the vette's have a return line. Aren't you supposed to use the fuel rails off a vette when you put a LS1 into an f-body from an f-body. Or do I have this backwards.

according to what I read, you can get the vett rails or use the regulator w/ return. I'm not even gonna begin to look at the price for the vett rails.

I have no idea about the vette. All I know is that my Z28 has no return line. I just got done sending my injectors out to have cleaned and matched. When I got back I was suprised to see how badly matched the stock injectors are. When they got the injectors they were only within 13% of each other and now each is within 1.9%.

Hey that sounds sweet. I wonder if you will pick up and MPG or hp. I knew about the return less lines of the f-body but I am pretty sure the vettes have one.

I've got the walbro 255, When I had the stock pump in it was at 14 psi (I could get it as high as 17 at idle), then with the regulaot set at 14 psi still, I hooked the 255 and my line pressure went to 19 psi. Just because the regulator couldn't keep up. I guess I'm trying to say that it would be hard to run the 255 at low pressure (like 12 psi) and keep the pressure steady. Unless your running big injectors.

I got it done for about 180 and change with shipping at EPI, or engine performance injectors, for all 8. The guy also said he would let me send them back to him in the future to have cleaned again for free. It's well worth it IMO. I was actually shocked to find out how mismatched they were. 13% is a lot in my mind.
