C4 Vette rearend into 3rd Gen

C4 Vette rearend into 3rd Gen

About 6 years ago, Car Craft Magazine featured a 3rd gen. that won their Real Street Elimintor, a competition that pitted about 5 or 6 readers rides against each other in Drag race, Road Course, Street Run, Gas Mileage slugfest. All I remember about this Canadian owned car was it had a centrifical supercharger feeding an Accel Superam set up. What really intrigued me was it was running C4 Corvette Dana 44 independent rear. Does anyone know anything about this car and how that set-up was adapted?

Cool! I'll do a search and see what comes up. Did the Hot Rod swap go on a third gen.? I have a complete C4 suspension package with a Dana 44 center section. I am planning to build an Everett-Morrison Cobra Kit in the distant future but if plans don't work out, the idea of using the rear end in my IROC might be an option. I currently have great combination of a complete Spohn rear with Global West handling the duties up front. I am very happy with this combo but that is never kept a gear head from dreaming. Who ever said "Necessity is the Mother of Invention" was probably not a gear head. We invent just 'cause we can!

I have seen some site where some person did do a C4 rear swap but are you sure it wasn't a Dana 44 solid axle?

I'm sure it was a C4 Dana 44 independent rear. No mistaking those for a solid rear end. The whole car was a thing a beauty. I wish I knew what issue. All I know is that it was the winning contestant in Car Craft's Real Street Eliminator.

Its been done lot more than a couple of times :-) GM even played with it back in the 80's for our cars as well, from everything i know and undestadn physically it is a near bolt in process. The problem lies with the rear spring in a c4 IRS, once u take care of that it basically clears/fits with no real difficulties. I've been trying to dig up info for doing it on my Formula just for seomthing neat and differetn, u poke around u can get those rears for a like 400-500 complete if u dig

I have the issue of CC with the 6spd , IRS, 355?, car. Was a blue TA i believe ig i get a chance (not likely) i will try and dig it out. I know it doesnt say much about the rear end swap though

There was a car by the name "Firefox" that was pretty wild. It had IRS, a ZF 6 spd and I think a twin turbo 355. I have a picture of it somewhere.

I remember reading about how the firefox had to lose its gas tank to fit the IRS. They put a small fuel cell in it.
