Tpi Base
HI, I am building an engine and was curious about how you make the runners larger in the base, I have SLP runners and would like to enlarge my base ports on the runner side. I know they are round so I just dont want to try and port them like the head side, because Its hard to make a perfect circle. Do the make a bit to enlarge it, I dont have the money to do an extrude hone, please if anyone can give me any ideas please help.....THANKS

Just get out the die grinder, a carbide bit and grinde away! I opened mine up to match some SLPs that i worked on. Make sure you properly modify some gaskets to make it all fit right too. I ended up just using some TPIS bigmouth gaskets and opened the base and runners to match those. They wont be perfectly circular, but you can make it close. Due to the way the stock base is you have to take more from certain areas than others anyways. Otherwise you run the risk of punching a hole through in places where there isnt much meat.

Do a search for prototype TPI intake.
I compared it to my heavily ported stocker and it is in the pics.
There is alot of meat to remove if your on a budget or seeing how far stock will take you
later

MAN SMURFIN, looks like you opend that sucker up, is that the factory intake, that sure looks good. So you done that with just porting tools. Have you fired that thing up yet, bet it sounds good. If you have some more shots of it would you please send it to me or post them, maybe some close ups so I can see what you have done...THANKS

Yes that is the stock intake. And yes I have it running. It pulls alot harder above 5,000 rpm and doesnt fall on its face at 4,500rpm. Yes, I have some more pics I can post but thats on another computer so I will have to do that later. All I used was a cheap air die grinder and several different shaped carbide cutting bits.

Thanks SMURFIN, do you know if when you port the SLP runners also, can you cut the tangs bout of the tubes, so far I have just blended them in and looks like it should not be a problem to just remove them because it looks like there is enough meat, I just dont want to cut it out if it will hurt them..THANKS

hey, sorry it took so long. I had some issues finding the files. I hope these help. I know the port job isnt as extreme as some, but it is more than adiquate for my LB9. There is much more room for porting on the side of the base that goes to the heads, but as of now my heads are stock so they are untouched for now.
