Trans Am tailights mod.... really cool!!!!
Trans Am tailights mod.... really cool!!!!
I have had my 84 Trans Am for about 5 years now and right away after getting it I did something to the tailights that I have never seen anyone else ever do yet ever. this really looks nice and I have had many compliments on it, even by the Minnesota state patrol!!!.
get a set of tail lights and remove the plastic rivets holding the assembly together. clean up the lens really good with soap and water. now with masking tape on the drivers side lens tape off the letter "T" and the reverse light area. do the same to the pass side except tape off the letter "A" and the reverse or backup area. after taping it off spray paint the inside of the lens with black spray paint. after the paint is dry remove the tape and reassemble the lights and put them back on the car. when you hit the brake lights then instead of just having a long rectangular light flash up the drivers side will be T and the pass side A for Trans Am. I wish I had a pick to put up. I will have to take one and have my wife put it up, not much of a computer wizard here. this mod that only costs you the price of a can of spray paint will get you more compliments than a blower!!! sorry Camaro guys, no good tailight mods for you. I will get a pick of mine up here asap.

I got pulled over by a Mn state trooper on a power trip one day and he pulled me over for my tail lights and he said they were illegal. I told him I thought it was alight b/c all the Ram pick up's driving around have those Ram logos over their tailights. the cop gave me a warning but I have never changed them to the regular tailights. 85- up Trans Am GTA tailights I heard you have to do somesort of work to make them fit. I have a friend of mine that put a pair in his car and he said it wasn't a straight forward swap.

Straight Bolt on ¡¡
If you have this :
Then 85-90 T/A tailights is straight replacement...just replace
If you are goin to put Formula/Base tails you have to rewire

I only have 3 pics online but the other 2 a to large I guess to put up. I just put in a 383 stroker, 700R4, the roll cage, full MSD, autometer guages(still need more though). I just got the car on the road in Feb but b/c of Minnesota winters I didn't really drive it then, not any considerable drive time till June b/c it rained everyday from april-May
. after I get all this work paid for then she will go into the body shop for a new paint job. I really want a nice clean new body b/c the car the way it is now has a little surface rust here and there and I want it all gone. so I am buying 2 brand new front fenders, new hood (thats why the scoop has not been molded smoothly to the hood), new bumper covers,ew running lightsnew door skins. prob sounds like alot I now but I really want it to look mint when it is all done. nothing like doing a project like this then getting it all done, real sense of pride.

I will be paying for all this works for another 2 1/2 years yet. then after that loan is paid off I will get another loan to get to body mint.thanks again for loading those pics up for me!!

You can see the "A" in this one. SWEET SET UP on that car! did those seats come in that car? I thought the PMD seats came in the 82-83 models. I guess some came in the 84s too.

That GTA light up logo is awesome! Where did you find that Trigger? My third brake light is on top like all 86 f-bods. I think that would look really good. A pic of a small firebird like on the tail lights might look good. As for the T/A brake lights, i like things symetrical too.

those PMD seats came out of an 83 Trans am. I have actually put this car together with abput 6 other cars. rear axle out of an 88 Formula, hood off of an 82 firebird, obviously motor and tranny not original, doors both from other cars as well. rear window wiper off of the same 83 Trans Am as the seats came out of. the fule door I got on this thirdgen.org. rear spoiler and glass are original but that is about it. alot of tediouswork but well worth it.. the real big key to any project is to not be in to big of a hurry otherwise you will end up cutting corners and regretting it later on. THANKS ALOT GUYS FOR GETTING ALL THOSE PICS UP FOR ME!!!!
83Firebirds/e are you the guy that bought my last parts car???I just sold my last parts car recently on Ebay and the buyer lived in Canada, maybe that is you, such a small world meeting up on this website.

i did like the same thing on my camaro to the third brake light... i made it to where it shines camaro on it...its an 86 w/the light on the outside of the hatch....i got it all done and put it back together to find out my 3rd brake light doesnt work...made me a little upset but it still looks cool. I need to follow the wires and find out why it doesnt work...
Nice car buddy!
those seats were originally in my 83 Trans-am.
And for your info mister you could swap the 85-90 T/a-GTA tailights directly into your car i had to change my turn signal sockets on my Formula to get em to fit right.

hey Dave whaz up!!. this is the guy that I bought my first 3rd gen from, his first 83 Trans Am. the same car that my seats came from and the rear window wiper. Dave and I went cruising this past wkend on university and I lined up with a chevy Nova II with Dave right behind me in his Formula and I think the Nova blew up his tranny trying to race me lol. his car didn't sound to healthy after wards and then that was the last we saw of him. would have been nicer if it would have been a Rustang blowing up his tranny though than a chevy. well I can say I have only really lost a race once so far and everyone can see a pic of the car that beat me in the newest issue of Chevy High Performance. look at the write up about the car craft show and look at the 83 Monte Carlo owned by Jeff Shelling. he has a 383 stroker like me w/ a 700r4 tranny. b/c I lost to him I have to get some work done to that motor of mine, now it is to slow lol. actually Jeff has Nitrous and I don't.

That GTA third brake light mod is the best one I have ever seen IMO. I think I will do something similar, but since I don't have a GTA, I will have to create some other word.
