tv cable adjustment?
I've got a problem. I can't get my trans to shift right. It shifts hard from first to second but won't shift to 3rd. Up until I changed the manifold(lt1) and torque convertor the trans worked fine, no burned fluid hard or late shifts or any other indications of problems. I tried adjusting the tv cable but when I pushed the button, pulled the cable housing back, let go of the button and slowly open the throttle blades, the cable doesn't rachet forward at all. I'm afraid to drive it because I don't want to screw it up. The convertor is a brand new tci .

if you pushed the d shaped button then pulled the cable all the way back to the firewall as far as it would go ....did you press the accelerator pedal from inside the car or did you do it from under the hood ?? you need to do it from inside the car and push it really slow untill it bottoms out then get out and make sure you have full throttle on the linkage if you do then you should be fine if you didnt hear any clicks at all or a pop letting you know it seated in then do it again and i know on my 88 gmc pickup i got it didnt make any clicks and i found out that the d shaped button you have to press had gotten stuck in the in position on me
so i had to fiddle with it a little and it still didnt make any noise but it does just fine for me no problems shifting at all

I did it from under the hood. I also tried pulling the cable itself just to confirm it rachets correctly. It does rachet so I don't think the button is bad but I'll check again today to make sure. Also I'll try from inside the car to see if that helps. I haven't been able to shorten the throttle cable yet so that may be a problem too.

Is the mounting location and bracketry for the cable in the same exact spot as it was with your old manifold?

I think I know what the problem may be. I was reading john millicans site and he mentions using a 93 camaros cable because his factory one was to short. Maybe mine is to long? I'm going to get a new cable for a 93 and try that. Also I sprayed the button down with wd 40 and it didn't change. Like I said I pulled the cable itself and it racheted like normal. Thanks for all the replys guys, I apprieciate it

Well I'll let you know in a few hours. I've got to go back to work for a meeting but all I have left to do is put the battery back in, finish filling the tranny and road test. I can say this was probably the problem. When I installed the new cable it adjusted exactly the way the manual said it should.
