V10 powered 89 RS

I posted this in the motor swap board as well as here since some people don't go to both forums.
This is pretty sweet,
More info here,

Thats freakin' nuts! If I was going to go through all that trouble, I would've done an LT5 swap and kept it all GM.

the guy had a blown and stroked small block chevy in there before that most likely put out more hp than that viper motor. In my opinion he just ruined that car.

oh well, he still had a stroked small block in that thing that i'm guessin was pushin a pretty descent amount of power. Even if it wasnt, he ruined a prefectly good chevy with that dodge motor.

****ing awesome! The only thing I would do is repaint the car to match the motor.

I myself am currently looing into putting a 2003 Cobra motor in my 91 Z28. The only way I won't do this is if the motor is too wide for the engine compartment. If it is I'll see about a Nissan RB26DETT or Toyota 2JZ. This is not about going faster, I just want a Camaro that nobody else in the world has.

why would u put a cobra motor in when you could just blow a regular SBC??? Or go get one of those straight 6's from the new trailblazers and trubo that or something. At least keep it all GM. And where would you find a RB26DETT. Not like you see a lot of wrecked Skylines in the junkyards ya know.

Dart engine compartment is several inches to short for that.

Once you consider the potential power/weight ratio you'd make it work It would still be allot cheaper than a HEMI Dart...

I don't want to be like everyone and their mom. I know that for what I pay for an 03 Cobra motor I could build a carb'd smallblock with 100 extra hp. I don't give a crap though. I'm not on a budget and I'm not going for all out power. If I was I'd go big block.

Or go get one of those straight 6's from the new trailblazers and trubo that or something.
I'm sorry but that motor does nothing for me.

At least keep it all GM.
Maybe if I was brand loyal, but I don't believe in that bs.

I know some guys in Japan that could hook me up, and if they die tomorrow there's always Motorex.

Well by making my car different from everyone elses I will enjoy it more and therefore it will be better to me. I don't care if it's better to everybody else in the world.

If I was gonna spend that much cash on an engine swap, it would be a northstar engine, not a freakin dodge pos motor... dodge sux :P

that doesnt make sense. you say you want to be different meaning you want to stand out from the pack but you dont care what other people think. If you didnt care what other people think then you wouldnt care about having something noone else has.

Sometimes there is a reason why a lot of people have something. Usually it boils down to it being better. Ever wonder why certain company's products are so popular? Because every once in a while it is actually better. There are a lot of small block chevy motors out there because they are awesome engines. They can make tons of horsepower for a farely cheap price, sound awesome, have an almost unlimited supply of after market parts, and the list goes on. If you say money doesnt matter then why do you have an 84 camaro? If you truly doesnt matter and money is no option go get ureself a ferrari, something you dont see every day, not an 84 camaro with a different engine.

If I cared what everyone else thought I wouldn't even have considered these swaps for a split second. I want my car to be different because being the same is boring to me.

The 3rdgen F-body is my favorite body style car of all time. That's probably hard for you to believe though because it isn't yours. I've wanted one ever since I was 5 years old. The 84 was the first one I could get my hands on. I now have a 91 Z, an 83 Z, an 87 RS and an 87 IROC if the cops ever find it. Never said I was Bill Gates though, I just said I don't need to worry about blowing a few thousand.

Actually the 91 to 92 camaros are my favorite looking cars in the whole world. Ive always wanted one ever since i could first drive and I have one also. My 92 rs I think looks better than any other cars on the road. I'm also a chevy man and would never ever put any other engine in my camaro than a chevy v8. That is one of the reasons i fell in love with those cars, that classic good ol chevy v8 under the hood. I'm just saying thats me. If you are gonna enjoy your car more with a nissan engine or some other jap car engine then go right ahead, but i would never even consider the switch.

I've seen a 32v northstar in a 4th gen. It was at texas heatwave in 2000. I was parked next to it and slightly talked to the guy about the swap. Not easy is what I was hearing.

I agree with doing something different. However, my cashflow is limited so I somewhat agree on keeping it "gm" which tends to be slightly cheaper.

That looks like a tight fit, but different.

Good G^od ! That is a monstrosity! The idea of putting a Dodge engine into a Chevy, but the fact that it is a Viper V-10 makes it a little better. I must say if I was going to do an engine swap, I would drop in the 572 BBC that GM released, has over 600 HP and TRQ I think.

Some people are just so busy trying to be "different" that they fail to realize they're like every other moron around, this is how the whole park bench wing things and retarded body kits started out.

Except for the fact that the "park bench wing things and retarded body kits" stuff are often people faking they have something they don't, or doing it because it's "cool" and it's what "everyone else is doing"

What everyone else is doing <> being different from everyone else.

Why do you people care what he does to his car. I say rock on.

I think its tight as hell. That car will smoke 90% of the cars here, including mine. He didn't "ruin" it by putting in a dodge motor. Some of you are just jealous.

The Dodge motor didn't ruin it, the fugly yellow Chevrolet sticker on the windshield did. BTW, why don't you try a BMW V12 engine. IIRC the Cobra motor will be way too wide for our engine bays. Chev actually tried the BMW engine in one of their cars as a project car once. Or rework the frame and drop in a hybrid drivetrain from a Prius or something.

if oyu think dropping a 305 in a camaro is better than dropping a viper v10 in one you need to be shot. and black84z28 a rb26dett in a third gen is just degrading the entire third gen community, and it'll still be slow, plus i wanna know how you plan on doing an awd conversion on a 91 Z

That's fantastic.

and it'll still be slow,
Right. A completely stock R34 is good for low 13's. The Z28 is over 500lbs lighter with a V8, it's more aerodynamic and it doesn't have the power robbing AWD drivetrain.

plus i wanna know how you plan on doing an awd conversion on a 91 Z
I don't. I'm gonna run an RB25DET transmission.

Incase nobody figured it out, I will be going with the Nissan motor. The Cobra motor is too wide, and I didn't see any good enough deals on the Toyota motor that would make me choose it over the Nissan motor. The Nissan motor complete with the wiring harness, ecu and tranny is only going to cost me 6 grand. That's ****ing cheap.
