do i have the wrong alternator, or bracket?

i'll take a picture later on...

the alternator i have comes no where near to lineing up with the bolt holes on my engine. you can see some pictures(take better ones later) on my site. and seeing we have had TBI and TPI parts laying around i figure maybe it got mixed up somehow.

any ideas? look at my site...

and also the belt that i KNOW if ment for this engine, doesn't fit at all.

look at the 8th picture from the bottom on the first page of my site.

There's no way to tell from the pic you have on your website. Take several pics, front and back of the altenator on the bracket.

I can tell based upon the mounting points and the location of the alternator plug.

I think that is the incorrect alternator for the serpentine setup.. You need one with an offset mounting pattern (it looks like you have a straight one now)..

alright well i got those pictures up(page 6).

thinking about it, those would have to be the right brackets. because wasn't the TBI non-serpintine(don't know what to call it). just where would i get an alternator like that with serpintine???

and i called around to parts stores today hopeing they could tell me what one is MENT for the TPI, and i'd just get that and go from there. but all they could tell me was if it was 80 Amps or 100, which is it?

one guys had a computer that told the differance and said it was the 100 amp, didn't order it though...

Just order one for a 1990 Trans Am with a 350.. it'll be a 105 amp CS-style alternator with the correct mounting provisions.

alright i'll leave it at this....how many amps does the TPI aternator have?

100 amps you said? because napa brought both down from the warehouse...

i'll take pics if needed, because you probably know the deal, no returns on electrical items (thats y i'm so cautious about buying this thing...)

yes, they will both work... Same brackets on both induction setups ('88-'92).

lol. well since i KNOW this is either TBI or TPI bracket setup(or a mix of the both)....then...whats the problem? i just need to know which amp alternator to get then right?

i got pictures going up right as i'm typing this on the site. will be up soon.

and wheres this casting number? because this MIGHT JUST BE an 87 bracket....

It'd be easy to tell if you have the wrong brackets. There are serpentine brackets and then there's everything else. Serpentine brackets are cast aluminum, silver in color. Every other bracket they used on the Fbodies were steel, painted black.

If the alternator doesn't fit the bracket, you have the wrong alternator.

i know its serpintine because it had a power steering pump on it that was never taken off which had a serpintine pully on it. and now i know its the wrong alternator...

i'll rephrase the question..."what alternator do i need" but seeing there both the same on TBI and TPI..."what amperage do i need, 85 or 100?" it doesn't have ac(any more....its not going to be used)

It probably doesn't matter which one you use. This is more of an electronic question than a TPI question. You should ask this question in the electronics forum.
