Has anyone tried a later computer?
Has anyone tried a later computer for a CC Q-Jet on an early L69? I have read the the 87 Monte computer is faster, better than the original. The computer was offered with the ZZ4 motor with an upgrade chip. I am thinking of replacing the computer on the 83 Z and it seems the later computer would be a step up.
I ordered the computer and the chip, they should be coming in tomorrow. Part of the reason I'm getting them though is to temporarily fix my EGR issue. In other words, it'll be a comparison between my '85 LG4 computer and chip with a malfunctioning EGR system and too much advance, and the ZZ4 chip and later computer that should ignore the EGR system.
how much does the computer and the chip cost and what benitfits would one gain from it?? i put the cc qjet on my new 350 and kept all the emissions stuff except the smog pump since i dont have visual inspections. but if this is worth it money wise.. im up for it.

I've heard two people say the ZZ4 chip ignores the EGR. That's not the impression I got, since the conversion kit comes with a tube to route exhaust from the exhaust manifold up to the old hot air choke boss on intake cross-over passage. The ZZ4 intake has both the EGR valve boss and this hot air choke boss.

Do the instructions show the tube I was talking about? The only mag article I've seen on the conversion had two pictures of that feature alone.

I might as well scan the whole thing. It doesn't list those parts in the part list or have pictures of them. I bought it at the end of last year straight from GM so it's not likely to be outdated (they had to print another one up for me).

Here are the part #'s I used for the ECM 1228079 for the Prom 24502457. I used the prom for 82-84 LG4 because thats what I had in there before I put the motor in. For 1985-87 LG4, 83-86 L69 you want to use 24502456 for the prom.

The ZZ4 chip does in fact ignore EGR. I've had a scan tool hooked to mine many times and the EGR duty cycle never changes from 0%. I don't have the EGR hooked up any more and in fact don't know where the EGR wire from the ECM even goes any more, or if there's even a wire on that ECM pin .
While the ZZ3/4 intake has all the EGR passages, the aluminum heads don't. Without plumbing an external EGR system, the EGR cannot be made to work. And since the kit contains stock L98 manifolds, where would the external exhaust source come from?
In fact, IIRC, the only pipe that my kit came with was the one that goes from the valve cover to the breather filter. Heck my kit even came with a label that states that the car is certified to pass without EGR or EFE. Maybe I should take a picture of that label...

I don't believe so. But I think it's this one:

12-803 looks like the one I have.

I probably won't get the computer and chip before I go to the track on Friday. Scoggin-Dickey said GM doesn't have any chips and they're gonna check to see if any other dealers have one in stock.
