Okay, 9/21/02 BBQ, The full details, a -MUST- read!

Okay folks, here's the full scoup on our next gathering, on 9/21/02. I met with the rangers at the park today to go over logistics, both were really nice guys and great to talk to. We are all set for this saturday. Please read this post completly, so we are all on the same page.

First off, just a few quick reminders:

- traffic laws are obviously in force, 25mph max in the park

- absolutly NO burnouts, aggressive driving, etc.

- park admission is $2, there may be someone collecting at the gate, or there may not. If not, the honor system is in effect. Grab an envelope at the box as you come in, toss $2 in it, and put it in the big mailbox looking thing. Before you drop it in the box, tear off your parking pass and put it on your rear view mirror. Everyone -must- have paid up, and have a pass.

- no beer, etc.

- please be curtious to other park patrons, park officials, etc.

- trash is on a pack in, pack out plan. I will be collecting trash at the end, just put it in a small grocery bag or something like that

I am sure that we will not have any problems with any of this, I just want everything to be clear up front. Everyone's co-operation with these matters will ensure that we all have a great time, and we are welcomed back in the future. I am personally vouching responsibility for our group and it's behavior, so let's be sure to leave a good impression on DNR (Department of Natural Resources), NPSP, and it's rangers. I have invited them to stop on by and get to know us, and have some (hopefully) good eats. The MD DNR has had some issues with auto enthusiast groups in the past where outright moronic behavior ensued, and became a real mess. I am really glad that we are being given this opportunity to use the park, and be able to leave the staff with a positive impression of our sport, our hobby, and our auto enthusiast community.

Park information
North Point State Park
8000 North Point Road
Edgemere, MD 21219
http://www.homestead.com/northpointstatepark/

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=131856

I will be at the park at 10:15am getting things set up, and the semi-offical BBQ time is 12:00.

There is going to be a caravan from the McDonald's on RT3 to the park. The McD's is directly across from capital raceway, right next to long fence. It's the big one with the 2 story playplace. Steve86TA will be leading the group from there to the park. The caravan is gathering at 10:30.

My cliff notes on directions to the park:

From Northern MD/ points from North:
695 South Exit 42 - North Point Blvd./Sparrows Point. Bear right onto 151 South -- North Point Blvd. First left (Edgemere/Ft. Howard) onto North Point Rd. (into edgemere) you will pass a wawa on the left, then sparrows point HS on the left, stay LEFT at the fork in the road, strait for about a 1/2 mile, park entrance is on left. (bay shore road)

From Southern MD/VA/DC area
(I-95N to I 695 East, key bridge)
I95 North to 695E to Exit 43 -- Sparrows Point. Left (at ramp) onto Rte 158 -Bethlehem Blvd towards Edgemere/Fort Howard. Proceed to traffic light at North Point Blvd. Straight through the light onto North Point Rd. (into edgemere) you will pass a wawa on the left, then sparrows point HS on the left, stay LEFT at the fork in the road, strait for about a 1/2 mile, park entrance is on left. (bay shore road)

Basically after you get off of I-695 (and onto north point road if you are coming from the North, it's the first left) you stay strait on the main road until you hit the park. It will be on the left. (If you end up at Fort Howard Park, that's the end of the road, you have gone too far! It's back about 2 miles.)

Also, please note that mapquest says North Point Road/RT 20. there is no signs for RT20, just North Point Road, which are the same. Just worth mentioning.

NOTE: The toll for the Key Bridge is $1 each way.

NOTE NOTE: The transit police around the key bridge is a somewhat over zealous bunch. -WATCH- your speed & driving habits about 5 miles before the bridge in and until you get off the exit. They hide around corners, behind trees, under overpasses, in bushes, under sewer covers :sillylol:, well, you get the point.

I'm new here, but I'd really like to attend the BBQ. Is there anything I can bring, or anything I should know about it that isn't already posted? Any info would be appreciated!

I'll bring a bag of charcoal. Do we need lighter fluid to go with that? I might bring a couple of bottles of water or Lemonade if anyone's interested. I know Mark said he'd want water.

How long of a drive would it be from Carlisle? I know you've been up here Mark. I'd love to get in on one of these gatherings and check out some of the other cars, just don't know if I feel like driving 2 hours home from college, and then down to maryland.

It's about a 2 hr drive I think to the park from Carlisle, maybe slightly less.

I'm driving home from Frostburg State U on Frid 200 miles to home, then another 80 miles back up north to the park, back home 80 miles, then on Sun driving another 200 miles back to college.

Damn I guess I wouldn't get the long distance award then. If I end up going home this weekend maybe I'll try and go down. Is anyone else from PA going down that I could cruise down with?

Actually, you are closer to the park than Mark is. It's about 1.5 hours from Carlisie to Sparrows Point, you would just hop down 83S to I-695East, then follow the directions above. It's right off the southeast corner of the Baltimore beltway if you are looking at a map.

Anyone else that I should add to the list? I am going to need a rough idea of how many f-bodies so I can cone it off. I figure the non-F cars can park just outside of the cones (right next to the f-bod's), for picture purposes. I will have one on each side. (Camaro for the show, and use a Tbird as a mule. )

Cone placement for Z28s only

Is there a place way way down at the end, where the camera starts to get fuzzy and all the cars down there look good in a colorful blur?

Neither is mine (plus it's a 6-banger). Like Mark said if we were all rich, we'd all have show quality cars. We can all respect each other for keeping the third gen's alive and running.

Mine is in "line up and look condition"- "Holy cow how is that thing still holding itself together? Looks like rust-termites holding hands!" That termites-holding-hands quote was courtesy of my loving fiance, when I told her that my car looks a million times better than hers! She's gotta work Saturday so she can't make it.

I had a volleyball net but it was loaned to someone for a party and never seen again. They still go for $20? If nobody's bringing one yet, I might consider buying one to replace my missing set. As long as we use a "real" volleyball and not some stupid inflated beach ball (man I hate 'playing' with that), we could have a hell of a game!

Well, if you want to buy another vball net now go ahead, one less thing I have to pack at the last minute when I get home, and try to wax the car.

volleyball net/junx 2 play w/

my parents i think had a volleyball net, see if i can yoink that from them for the day, nd i'll see if i can find a ball somewhere that actually feels motivated enough to stay inflated. my b/f josh (mustang owner, will be riding w/ ME tho ) and probably a friend Michelle, indydog72 on other boards if anyone knows her & her b/f. she'll be bringin her IROC i believe, & i have no clue what kinda wheels her man has. chalk me up for the volleyball net tho, or at least some other toys to keep us all occupied

i'd love to be in the pics, even tho my front end is rockin that 2-tone look = red w/ bra to cover paint damage!

can't wait to meet y'alls it sounds like it's gonna be fun!
