350 swap about to begin
i just ordered my LO5 from http://chevy-350-engines.com/
its only $1017 plus a core charge of $200. so if u have a old engine u could send as a core the engine is very cheap. ill be swaping in a LT1 cam and stewart stage 1 water pump. im goin to take pictures and make a site for everyone to use on how to swap in a 350, because the same questions have been asked over and over. also you can email me info on what to put on the site. tips, suggestions, etc....
here is the link to the lo5 2 bolt
http://chevy-350-engines.com/chevy-engine-245.html
and here is the TPI 350 4 bolt
http://chevy-350-engines.com/chevy-engine-246.html
and the vortec engine 2 bolt

They look to have pretty good prices on their stuff. Good luck with the swap! Getting the engine out and in is hard but rewarding.

Making a web site with pictures, tips & tricks, hardships encountered.........would be awesome....
I'm planning a LO5 swap for Late Feb., Early March......
Good Luck
Tips: What requires modification to fit on the new LO5 compared to the stock 305 TBI...........What improvements...........Approximate time to complete swap......

What kind of horsepower are you lookin' to get from that? I'm kind of interested in the Vortec one. . . but I'm going to need atleast 300 HP and 350+lb/ft. It seems to be a pretty good deal, but I'm a little leary about getting a remanufactured block.

Assuming you are staying with TBI, it would be nice to tell about the things you will encounter with swapping the TBI setup from a 305 to a 350. I have run into a few problems when I did that swap myself.

sorry for the late replies. ive been busy working. ive only had time on sudays to work on my car so im almost done. i think next sunday it will be goin in. and the engine comes with a 7 year 70,000 mile warrenty. but i think i voided that with the LT1 cam.
this started out as just an easy swap, taking parts off the old engine and putting it on the new one. well i didn' t do that. everything is new on the engine except for a few things. oil pump bolt, egr, and cable bracket. my engine bay is now painted black, and my firewall has sheet metel welded to it to cover the heater box holes. ill take pics of that tomorrow.

Looks good. I had gotten my 330ho motor new from Jim Pace when it was only $1950.
Other than the Lt1 cam, what else is being done?
Remember to burn your own eproms. Start with the ANLU (Caprice 350) bin file and change stuff like the main spark to have the timing come in a littler faster. Depending on your intake and exhaust you'll also want to multipy the pump shot tables by 2. That would be a good start, then use winaldl to trim fuel and watch for knock counts. Play with the timing and during fuel tuning, try disabling EGR, makes for more accurate adjustments to the main VE tables.
Please do keep us updated, looks like fun.

I bought the 9C1 police lo5 from paceparts awhile back. 1500$ brand new. It has lo5 heads but it has 9.6:1 compression and comes with a l98 cam instead of the lo5 cam. I will be putting a set of world product sportsman II heads and a cam in this summer. I was gonna stay TBI but ended up going carb and I never looked back.

well i just wanted to let u guys know that the engine is still running hard. and i push it hard everyday. ill be goin to the track finally on monday and then next saturday. so ill post the times. was there any more questions about doin this swap. sorry but i never made the site.
I am about to make a 350 tbi swap with mine because my head gaskets are basically gone and it'd be easier for me to swap the 350 then rebuild the 305. I have a 350 already. Could I just swap in the 305 intake manifold? What else would I need to get? Bigger injectors maybe? I have headers from the 305 that I'll transfer over. I'm planning on using the 305 ecm also. Would I run into any problems with what I am planning on doing?

Could I use the stock 305 fuel pump? Some people say yes, others say I'd need to at least get a fuel pressure regulator, and others say no.
Let me run through my setup here.
Complete 350 tbi engine
305 ecm with 350 tbi chip burned by tbichips.com
new knock sensor
new spark control module
bigger fuel injectors (i hear the 65's work well)
possibly bigger intake
headers
flowmaster exhaust
open element with K&N air filter
Am I missing anything else? Should I go with the fuel pressure regulator and leave the stock fuel pump in there? Thanks for all the help.

Most people get the Vacuum AFPR from Top Down Solutions. It seems to work well. I've never heard of anybody needing a new fuel pump just for switching to a 350 TBI. Now if you were going to TPI, then yes you would.
. . . and don't forget new motor mounts while you're in there. I'm also replacing all of my hoses at the same time as well.

The stock pump is crap. It's good for a few mods to the 305 but I wouldn't trust it up to the task with higher fuel pressure (~15). The stock pump really is a POS even with a stock Lo3. Just upgrade the pump and never have to worry about it ever again.
Walbro 190lph for $90, complete kit, $8 shipping. No more lean motor burnups.

im still using the stock pump because my exhaust is all welded in. i dont feel like cutting it out yet. if i was smart i would of done the pump when i did my engine, because i took all the exhuast off. but my fastest time has been 14.975. so i just bought a holley 670 tbi and im getting aluminum heads to solve that. plus some suspension parts for traction.
