Pictures of my exhaust Cutout (before cat)
Well I figured I'd post this to give you guys an idea. I noticed alot of people put cutouts behind the catalytic converter, but I thought that would decrease the benefits of the cutout.
So what I did was I cut an oval shaped hole into the bend on my Y-pipe (using a cutoff wheel). I then flared it out a little bit so I had a good amount of metal to weld on.
I then bought a 3" cutout from Summit Racing. I used a cut-off wheel to slice off the "cutout" part of the cutout itself. It's hard to explain but you'll see what I'm talking about in the picture.
It sounds pretty loud just revving and stuff, but I haven't driven the car yet with it open. It's probably going to be really annoying, but ahh.. o well
I'll use it mostly for fun and track use. It sounds good when the engine is under a load.. its pretty loud.

you certainly did the right thing, because placing a cut-out anywhere after the cat is absolutely retarded....the purpose of a cutout is unobstructed exhaust flow. glad to hear you are happy with your setup....i love the sound of a cutout.

Hey TunedPort335....you should get one of the electronic valves for your cutout...either a McCord Power Plate of a Quick Time......I have a McCord Power Plate on my cut out...and it's soooo kewl...by the flip of a switch....you can have it LOUD as hell....or...the loudness of your muffler...or anywhere in between....I have my cut out placed in the intermediate pipe...that's where the muffler shop installed it.......it dosen't bother me where it's located or anything....and I don't think it's retarded located there....I'm very very happy with the sound...especailly with the McCord Power Plate!

I'll have dyno numbers in the Spring after the motor is broken in, then I'll know for sure how much power I gain through the cutout. I'm gonna say around 10hp or around there.
I was thinking about an electric one, but i've heard a few stories about the motors dying. Ahh well I'll just keep the manual one, It's easily accessible even when the car is on the ground.

Oh...well...that's kewl....I have one....and I've never had any problems with it.....both of my cats are cut off......so....I didn't think it really mattered where the cutout was placed... Alot of people say "they've heard" that the motors go out....but..the truth is.....people that say that haven't tryed them.....and haven't given them a chance. Anyhow....I didn't get my cutout for any additional power....I got my for just sound.......but make sure to post up your test results. That would be cool! Good luck man

I took off my airbox, then took off that plastic peice that holds the radiator to the radiator support, I then routed the wires up there... all the way over to the battery for that "clean look". I used Zip Ties to hold the wires in their place, and I also covered the wires so they don't get chaffed (sp?).
Here's a couple pics- (the yellow arrow is pointing to it)

No room for subframe connectors with the cut out in that location. Something people need to keep in mind if they intend on some serious power.

I'm gonna see if I can fabricate some custom ones. My dad works in a steel mill so I believe he can get me some high-quality materials.
Good eye
there sure is room for sub frame connectors but what you have to do is turn the cut out to the other side and have the electric cutout plate to uncork your headers as long as you drive it short distances ie. 1/4 mile you shouldnt have a problem with heating the tranny

Some SFCs will still fit no problem, like the Alstons or S&Ws.
That looks nice. Avoids any more bends in the system down range and should allow it to breath about as well as can be expected with shorties and our floor pan layout. I have one chillin in the parts pile right now and that is right where I was planning on putting mine except I have a test pipe instead of a cat and will adapt it to the front end of that.
