Oh noes, started polishing my rims
now I won't get bored for a while. Here's the first rim with a heavy coat of paint stripper.
Has anyone else polished the base Firebird rims? Could you post pics to motivate me?

I'll buy some aluminium polish tomorrow. In the photo it's only sanded (180, 320, 600, 1000, 1500) and and cleaned with nevr dull

Thanks, guys. I'm not sure yet what to do with the inbetween spots. I could paint them black but it doesn't look bad as it is.

Ok, I worked on the second rim for 6,5 hours today and got an even better shine.
It's dark now, but I'll try to get some pics of the rims on the car tomorrow.

Thats one helluva reflection on that last picture!!:hail:
I would paint the inserts black to really set off the polished part

BLING BLING!
That's the stripper I used. It's really old, probably five years or more but it worked great. One thick coat took all the paint off.
I used an el cheapo sander from the local hardware store to do some rough parts, mostly the oxidations, but most of the sanding was done by hand.
And another cheapo tool from the local hardware store, a car buffer. Most of the polishing was done with it and it worked pretty good. First I used "Paste Grün" buffing compound (again very old, 10 years+), then some generic car polish and then Armor All wax.
Two more to do. Damn it.

I went w/ just a glossy black for my inserts.
That shine puts my wheels to shame! Nice job!
