tpi manifold? interchangeable

Tried searching, and faqs, came up with nothing.

Need a new manifold (base plate?) The thermostat housing stripped out, had it fixed, the guy butchered it, tapped and drilled sideways, put TWO threads on it and called it a day $200 later. He charged me for taking the whole TPI setup off minus the manifold, and didnt..No one I take the car to now will touch it, saying if they messed it up, theyed fix it, but wont touch mine, best bet to get a new manifold. Its kind of getting thin with metal to tap again anyway, plus it being tapped off center. Can the manifold come off of any TPI? I have a 88 GTA 5.7, could I get the manifold off a 5.0 or 5.7 camaro or firebird, or do I have to look for exclusive ones? Also do the years matter?

What would the going rate for a manifold be, plus the labor to have one installed? SORRY for the long post, stuck in a bind here and Thanks to anyone that can help.

edit, BOOTLEG idea, I know, but would it work? If I get a stud and JB Weld the stud into the hole, would it work. Main problem is that it wont be 100% centered due to the horrible tapping, would it hold up with a nut on the stud a little side ways? I heard some amazing stories about JB weld, and really in poor shape for money at the moment, Any of you guys think it would work? Any recomendations?

I think only 87 and 88's. In 89, they eliminated the Cold Start injector.

The lowers are all pretty much the same. I had an 86 on my 91 for years. The 86 was extrude honed. I have 2-3 of them laying around here. They are stock except for the 86 but that has the 86 and older bolt pattern. PM me if you want one. I take it easy on you

What do you have in front of you? Is the base on the car installed, but the hole is just butchered so it is leaking? Or what?

Depending on the current state of assembly, and since you don't seem to want to install a new one yourself anyway, and depending on what the (non) threads are like.... Actually JB welding a stud into some ****ty, but semi-present threads is not the end of the world. Worst case it leaks and you're no worse off than you were to start with. If your only other option is to buy a manifold and pay to have it installed, absolutely give it a try.

Oh yeah, 85-86 and 87-> up are the 2 different f-body TPI bases. Difference is the center intake bolt angle. Either can be modded to work on the other with 5 minutes and a grinder. Vette base has a different EGR hole and other minor difference. Could use it though if you were desperate, but i doubt the one you find cheap is a vette base anyway.

Thats the situation Im in, everything is on the car, would have to buy a new one, and pay to have it installed, so I guess I will give the JB Weld a try, just wanted some confidence thanks!

So when I get money I would need a 87+ intake? What are ways to tell them apart? And it doesnt matter 350 or 305, might sound stupid but maybe the 350 is ported wider? I dont know. Thanks for all the help, and jeffsbluez, If you have one 87+ PM me your price, im interested THANK YOU ALL!

If you have a good eye (and I dont think its that hard to spot) the center 4 bolt holes where the manifold bolts up to the heads are at a different angle on 87-up. The earlier ones are all at the same angle. If there is another simple difference (besides part number) I am missing it. I dont know the part numbers.

Is the hole for the CTS sensor on the newer manifolds without the CTS? I thought someone said it wasnt there, but I never verified it.

My main problem with identifying the bolt patterns is that I never seen my manifold off/unbolted. Have pics of one for sale on ebay that were mailed to me, but cant seem to post em. Get an error saying format is wrong but they are jpegs??

ps, sorry about the views, my friend thought it would be funny to see what would happen if he hit refresh 200+ times to get the flames. I repeatedly smacked him on the head...:nono:

LOCTITE makes a thread repair gooh that you simply squirt into the hole and stick in a bolt. When it sets, you unscrew the bolt and have perfect threads that are harder than the original metal.
