Miniram & Custom Valve Cover Install
Well I think I may have finally done something a bit unique. Got the install done this weekend thanks to some good buddies Brandon (Chevymad) and John (Dewey316). Installed the miniram, LT4 Hot Cam, comp timing chain, comp magnum 1.6 RR's, Z28 springs.
Here is a link to my original Miniram powdercoat post.
Here are a few pics from the install...
Custom valve covers from Flaming Engraving (great people to work with BTW - Tell Dee that Schultzy sent you!)
But of course I couldn't leave well enough along... it is the RED SLED after all

A few more shots of them on the engine...

So what do you think dudes and dudettes?

...jeeze...
Once again another horrible horrible looking engine, and vehicle.
If you had any dignity whatsoever you would get rid of such a hideous vehicle.
Just send it my way, and I can properly dispose of it.
Really though, awesome. One of the first valve cover paint jobs that was tastefully done.

I normally don't comment on other people's engines, but I just had to day DAMN, that's pretty sweet! Very clean and tasteful and not tacky at all...great job!

Thanks for the compliments. Yes, I do need to clean up the wiring and adjust hose lengths, etc. I have some new convoluted tubing. Also need to get the nitrous plate and solenoids connected back up and get the strut tower brace back on.

I have to ask...how much? I want an exact copy of those. Sorry it'd ruin your originality - but that is just too gorgeous not to want to copy.

:hail: Well, since I am all of 25 minutes from corona I think I know a pair of vette heads that are going to get some custom Z28 valve covers
Sorry to copy, but those are the best looking valve covers I have EVER seen.

To paint the valve covers I masked them off and then used a hobby knife (like an x-acto knife) to cut the tape out of the ball mill and around the GTA lettering on the valve covers.
Then I masked the off and painted with bright red VHT. Not sure that I had to use VHT but I thought it would be safer and a bit more durable.
To do the gold, i used a paint pen. The tip was a bit wider than I would have liked but I thought I would try that instead of a brush. It turned out pretty good.
To tell the truth, I was pretty nervous about doing it but I figured if it really looked like *** then i could remove the paint and polish em up. There is still a little touch up to do when you look real close but should be easy to clean up. I thought that I had messed them up but I asked my buds and they said they thought that they looked good and based on the reaction here I am glad I did it.

Go for it! Actually, if you look at Flaming Engravings site they have my valve covers up there now. Call them for pricing though.

I am running the hotchkis STB (red of course
). As far as what is the best paint, no clue. I used VHT for the reasons stated above but I have no idea if that was the best choice.

It doesn't run.
hehe
Just kidding. It is a real difference from the TPI. Where the TPI would start to choke itself this one starts pulling. Pulls all the way to 6k. I will get back out to the track sometime in the near future and see what it really did. We also have quite a few guys in the Cascade Crew that have been doing mods this winter/spring so we may do a dyno day later this summer instead of waiting until our annual dyno day in January.
My stock setup with just a few bolt ons (headers, afpr, etc.) ran a best of 14.561 @ 94.44 (3800 lb race weight - oink). There might have been a little more in it as this was my first time to the track and that was the best of my only four runs ever. Also running a five speed. That combo Dyno'd at 229RWHP/342RWTQ N/A. BTW - The sled is a 124k daily driver.
The real test will come soon when I get the N2O connected back up and see how the stock bottom end likes that 150 shot. Sounds like there are plenty of guys running more power than me on the L98 bottom end so I feel pretty good about it. We'll see.
