Problem with heater vents.
Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but figured I'd see what sort of response I get.
I have a problem with the vents for the heater in the car. I can turn the fan off, and have air blowing out of the windshield demist vents but when you select it to blow air from the vents into your face it still continues to blow out of the windshield vents. I can also change from hot to cold air.
Any ideas on what is wrong here? It's not a major problem but something I'd like to sort out.
Thanks for the help
Robert

All of the little doors that route the air flow require vacuum. The rest position (in the complete absence of vacuum) routes it all to the defrost duct.
Sounds like the vacuum supply line is disconnected, or the vacuum selector switch on the control head is bad.

Well I have noticed something. The vacume line that goes to the heater control valve. Well, there is another comming out from the same place but goes to nowhere. I'm thinking this could be the vacume supply line. Anyone have any idea where this one goes to? Exact same as the HCV line only slightly longer.
Thanks again

If this is under the hood, and the 2 lines are coming through the firewall right below the heater hose nipples in a harness with the A/C and blower wiring, that would be the line in question.
It should go to the vacuum reservoir, which might be a ball with 2 vacuum connections, or it might be a long narrow half-cylinder kind of thing. One of the connections (the larger one) on the reservoir should go to a nipple on the intake mainfold, and the one from the harness above should go to the smaller one.
