What will it take to run 11's with a 305

HI,
I just bought a 305 and my goals is to run 11's. With out nitrous and with out Boost.
The car has a 305, vortex heads, vortex truck fuel injected truck manifold, and a stock cam, 1/58 headers and true dual 3 inch flowmaster .
It pulles until 6500rpms. But it really idles bad and seams out of tune. It should be roasting the tires but I can't spi them no matter how far I dump the clutch
What else do I need?
Different clutch, chips or cams?
Thank you,
With your help I will do 11's in a stock lower block 3rd gen.

you don't want to spin the tires, not spinning is good and a big part of running 11s, also might want to try loosing weight

Already have "11 sec 305" in your signature...but can't even figure out why your car's down on power...

You need chips, lots of chips. And get a few cams too. You'll be in the 11's in no time flat*.

I'm not saying it is impossible.....but with what you said it is
I have never heard of an 11 sec 305 on motor
First you would have to have 14.5 compression, AFR heads and obnoctious cam, and it still won't happen
your rear would blow out the second you triied
with NOS its possible

All it takes is a whole lot more money and talent than it would take to build an 11 second 350.

For the cash it would take to make a 305 run 11s, you could make a 350 or 383 run 9s.

11 sec N/A non-nitroused 305?? Not worth the cash it'll take you honestly.... Just make sure it's built strong, put it on the bottle, and it'll make your goal quite a bit more attainable. The 305 is a bit of a pig though..

well lets see...

you could run a huge solid roller cam, the best alum heads that fit on that tiny bore, a sheetmetal tunnelram intake, the best exhaust money can buy.........

and assuming you have traction..... you MAY run 12s... but probly not.

look at willey... hes a hardcore 305 guy... he trimmed the top of the block to unshroud the lifters, he has a new bottom end, ect..... and it takes a supercharger to get that 305 into the 12s... he did it to be unique or somthing, and i can respect that, but i think even he would tell you that you are wasting your time (and money) trying to do NA 11s on a stock 305 shortblock.

the 305 is not a efficent engine. it is not a performance engine. its somthing GM threw together to meet emmissions requirements.

Hold on here is my Stratigy.

My car pulls like a crazy man and it hasn't even been chipped or tuned yet after my heads and intake. ITs really out of tune.
The engine is a STOCK 305 lower half and stock cam.

This is going to be na car only. No boost or nitros.
I Know for a fact that I can go a 12.0s WITHOUT slicks on my street tires.
I know how to drive. I've been to the track 20 times already with my last car. The secret is revit to 4500 and slowlu slip out the clutch.
The car was gteched and it said that I had over 480 horse!

Know if someone would lone me pair of slicks I go 11's. Or close to it.
In a 3600 pound ta it takes 480 horse to get there.

If any thirdgen wants to take me to route 66 and race my 5.0 I am down for it. I just want to prove it that this thing is fast.

I used to own a 383 dfi ,trick flow,xx-9 cam, mini ram corvette. I ran a 12.5-12.8 depending on my launch.
Know this 85 TA put that corvette to shame. I touch my gas pedal and I can spin my tires for hours, and it pulles twice as hard as my vette did.
I cannt believe how powerful my 305 is with 200 dollars in mods. The 305 is a great engine becasue of its tiny strock and long rods. IT will rev until 6700 rpms.
As of today I missed a shift and the dam thig whent to 8000rpms for a second. But its a really tough motor. I am really impressed with it and I dont know why people want to upgrade to 350 or 383s.

You all I am will run it at a track to prove to you that my car move. Know we are talking fasted 305 on street tires. Thats no drag tires or cheater drag radials. I have 10 year old tires. They are pretty hard so I will not run close to the potional of the car.

Also I have 600 dollars into the car incuding the purchase price. I bought it for 100 buck from a friend. Stock cam, stock clutch
I have payed 200 for a 1/58 header and true duals. I payed 300 for the vortex heads with the vortex manifold.
SO I cannt see how you guys are saying it takes 5000 dollars to do it.
The problem with you guys is you spend your money on the wrong items. Trust me the vortex heads flow better then most aftermarket heads. I heard the vortex fuel injection intake flows at 270 per cylinder.
This is a cheap combo and I will go to the track and prove it to you.
I am by route 66. If they are still having test and tune I will be there. I have a laptop and I will be tunning the car and running datalogs.
Note 500 dollars to make a fuel injected 305 run 12's on old street tires at the track says something about the combo.
Also if there is any NA 305 that want to run me for the entrace fee of 20 bucks. I will run you!

You really just did not say this....

Are you retarded ? No seriously, are you retarded?

Come up here with your 305 and I'll show you a 14 second car that will pull your POS like it's standing still.

you've been to the track 20 or more times?

i'm calling i spent money rebuilding my 305 with all those goodies plus more, you entered a few too many 0's in the weight of the gtech to pull 480hp, i'm happy with my 305 and it gets up out of way, but if i do it again it will be a built 350. dont step up and talk all this crap about stuff thats already been talked about and proven, willie on the board has a 305 in the 11's it's supercharged and using nitrous. you cant do it n/a. have fun let us know how it turns out

Buy some DOT slicks then if that's all you need. Sounds like you don't need our advice...

There's going to be a massive street car racing event this Friday over here in Indiana at the US 41 drags. You should be able to really clean up with your combo...

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=203078

The proof is in the time slips...

After reading some other posts, something is stinky in Denmark...

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...postid=1509205

First post...

Hi, I just bought a 86 firebird its a 305 and its a 6 speed(the seller told me). The owner said it used to be a v6.
He said that he left the stock manual transmition in the car. now I know how to drive and I can only find 5 gears?
I looked at the trans and it looks really small.
The fastest 5.0 in the state.
Do I have 5 or 6?
I am so happey again to have a third gen again.
Shane
You think he could keep his story straight in one thread...

I am sorry, I have no idea about modding a cars. THis is my first 3rd gen.
I've owned imports before this this and you could get like 100 horsepower by a muffler systems only.
On the 86 ta I have a 2 3 inch true dulls and that should count for a 100 horse apeice.
Or how much power do you think I have?
