TunerPro 3.0 now available
Whats up guys -
I'd like to announce the release of TunerPro 3.0.
GMECM Edit has a new name and a load of new features. Future versions of this software will be able to support a larger variety of ECMs and cars, hence the necessity for the name change.
Another substantial change is the splitting of the software into two flavors: "Free" and RT (for "real time" of course).
Some details on the split:
- TunerPro is everything and more of what GMECM Edit has been to date.
- TunerPro is, of course, free.
- TunerPro RT is everthing TunerPro Free is, plus the inclusion of the real time tools such as emulation and ALDL data monitoring.
- TunerPro RT has a meager asking price of $30 for registration (not only *much* cheaper than the competition, but far more powerful). You will only be presented with one nag screen at startup. Other than that, everything is fully functional. I really am trying to keep things simple and honest, and all I ask is that you please honor that!
- As development of the suite continues, everything non-real-time related will be included in TunerPro Free, where everything RT related will be added to TunerPro RT.
In addition to the new name and split software schema, these are other important additions to v3.0:
TunerPro Free
- 3D graphing capabilities with point selection/drag and mouse/keyboard rotation and translation (control-click and shift-click or Arrow keys)
- Compare 4 bins at once (formerly just 1 was available). Switch between them with quick keys (Ctrl + bin number).
- Now you can change the workspace background color (preferences menu).
- Pretty new splash screen at startup (dismissable by left clicking on it or in the workspace).
- Stability and user experience improvements (for instance, ECU item duplicate checking upon creation).
- Sticky/Docking windows. Toolboxes stick to each other (and desktop edges) and the main app window. When moving app window, all docked windows move too.
- Added 1k bin/chip/block size to the bin stacker (by request).
TunerPro RT
- Craig Moates AutoProm support, including Emulation, ALDL monitoring, and 29C256 and 29F040 chip burning!
- XTronics Romulator support. Now you can make changes in real-time!
- ALDL Data Monitoring.
ALDL Data monitoring will evolve drastically in form and function. Included currently are values (i.e. O2), bits (i.e. Engine Running), and 2 monitors (side scrolling graphs with which to view real-time data.
Future plans for this include Tables (i.e. BLM vs. RPM vs. LV8), user flags (i.e. set if speed > 55 and LV8 < 60), and many other things. Data logging to file is a very near-term goal.
Check out the rest of the features with screenshots and download the free version of TunerPro (RT will be available in a couple days in beta form) at http://tunerpro.markmansur.com/
Below is a screenshot of 3D graphing. Many thanks for those of you who have been waiting patiently for me to spend the time to implement this!

I love the 3D graphics. I'm sure your fingers are hurting from all the coding
Isn't it neat when people who don't know how to burn PROMs have an "isn't that clever" response to our DIY EFI work? How much more impressed would they be if they knew enough to understand what you've done? And you've made it available free- NEATO

Way to go Mangus! Looks sweet! You are the man! Thanks, I have been paciently waiting for a new update and it looks like the wait was well worth it. Thanks for your help, all of us here really appreciate it.

How would the TunerPro RT compare to TunerCat? Are they similar, very different, give me some pros and cons please...

With hopes that Tim will allow this:
TunerCat supports a larger variety of vehicles and with his definitions you don't need to worry about "accuracy".
On the other hand TunerPro RT has ALDL data monitoring and logging. Its also free (registration is *not* required, the application will not expire and does not have "locked" features. Registration simply tells me you like the product).
It should be noted that I'm not in competition with anyone or any other product. There are a number of solutions available for tuning your car.

For some reason (for which I'm sure I did) the graphing doesn't work..
The only thing I was doing was rewriting a ECU as a text file.. (shrug) BW

So, you're telling me they are similar products? Sounds like it. Just the TunerPro is free while with TunerCat it must be purchased. The features of TunerPro sound great. Thanks...

Ok I tried Tunerpro for the $8d version bin. Everything looked great but I thought it was unusual how you calculated cylinder volume. First you have CC then some other type of calculation. Where you not able to calculate this into liters or cubic inches? I was able to calculate it with my ecu for liters.

I don't support any ECUs other than the one that is included with the software.
That said, you can edit ECUs how you please.

Ok sorry about that I seen you were hosting the ecu and assumed you wrote them. My fault. Well everything looks perfect as far as the program itself goes. Good works many thank you's. Maybe you should consider doing the ecu's since you do such a great job with the program creating.

thanks.
i'd have to expand my collection of hacks in order to create/verify my own set of ECUs. If you've got 'em, send 'em.

hmm, wonder if you could get with the guys working on the prominator for RT support, then we'd have a complete solution created by board members.

the prominator guys contacted me months ago about support in tunerpro. i'm all about i. just waiting for them to get their protos done.
i've also been working closely with craig moates on his AutoProm (emulation, prom burning/reading, and ALDL interface all-in-one'der). my software and his hardware are talking to each other quite nicely at the moment.
when his hardware is ready, my software is ready. keep an eye out...
(or, stay tuned, as i like to say)

Does this mean I can monitor the data the same time as I'm running the RT tuning with the same program?

yessir. soon as craigs hardware is ready.
emulation and data logging simultaneously. happy thought, eh?!
(once again, i'm not out to replace anyone else's software. i'm all about expanding the choices though!)

nothin'. wanna do some testing with TunerPro RT with your Romulator for me? PM me if so.
Does it support PCM's that controll transmissions? If so wcould one find a mask for the 94 silverado $0d?
If so I would gladly donate $30 and use your program designed by one who hangs at the boards and shares a common goal other than making $$
Anywas even if I can;t use your program I would like to come out on your behalf and support.
You're making a great project, not for the money, but because it's what you like, and you're good at it. Anyone sharing that kind of talent, for minimal income potential deserves a great thanks and a high five at least...You;re efforts are greatly appreciated!

Please do not link to that ECU file again. The creator of the file contacted us and we have complied with his requests to avoid a lawsuit.

Though I do not want to get into a battle (out of respecet for everyone in the DIY community and the authors of all the wonderful software out there that use the information publically available to all of us), I do want to make some things clear:
1) the ECU file format is public and non-proprietary
2) the information contained in the bin files, and therefore the information the ECU files themselves define, is owned neither by myself, "Mechanic", or any other single entity. The information is owned by General Motors.
3) the ECU file in question above was exported to a non-proprietary file format by means created by the author of GMPCM himself.
And before it comes up, "Prior Art" protects the ECU file format and the information it defines from being patented.
Copyright has no bearing in this matter, as ECU's are neither art, music, or literary publication.
That said, ECU files themselves are not copyright or patent elligible.
However, the hack file(s) used to create the ECU file(s) in question are available. I will be "re-creating" the ECU files and will be making them available, publically, for free distribution. Sit tight.
Sorry for the trouble Mechanic (and especially Dirk). Again, its not my intention to step on anyones toes. The file was brought down shortly after I was contacted.
Here's to keeping the DIY community at the center of *my* interest.

So that you can best ascertain the situation at hand, here is the PM from Mechanic. I ask that you please review this before personally sending me, or posting, any ECU files.
Mechanic wrote on 10-20-2003 04:54 PM:

Are they paying rights to gm or something. Im really confused about this issue. I dont see how they could take any kind of legal action unless they purchased the rights and created a patent for the ecu. The reason I bring this up is because I can buy a patent for the gmpcm and create whatever I want with that information.

I belive most patents are accessed through here.

I was able to access all patents for fuel injection systems and systems there of. It is free information to be viewed.

Wow, nice work!!! Something I would like to see added to all of the tables/graphing is being able to select a range of cells. This would come in helpfull in spark and fuel tables, especially when programming in real time. Anything to minimize my keystrokes.
I have a question about the real time options too... say, in the spark table... Does it show which portion of the table the car is currently operating under, or do you just have to watch the entire thing again after each reburn to know if your changes worked?

no, the software does not tell you where you're working in the current table. That is a limitation of the current hardware available, not software. That might change though.
Multiselect graphing/tables is not a simple thing, and I don't currently plan on supporting it (maybe way down the road). You can change the contents of entire row/columns/tables using the table functions in the table editor toolbox, though. that should help some.

Multiselect graphing/tables is not a simple thing, and I don't currently plan on supporting it (maybe way down the road). You can change the contents of entire row/columns/tables using the table functions in the table editor toolbox, though. that should help some.

Knowing which load value you're operating under (spark table) was really helpful in rebuilding MAF tables using TwEECer on the OBD-II Fords last year. Making changes in a "zone" and selecting mutiple cells from each surrounding load value greatly reduced our table rebuild time by being able to add, say, 5% of X value under A, B, C load values as the car went across those portion of the table. As the car went through a WOT pass, we logged each run, then went back through and watched which portion of the tables the car was actually hitting. Sweet stuff!!!

Yes, hardware. There is no way for the ECM or emulator to communicate what address it is currently querying, and therefore no way for me to know.
Now, with combined ALDL information, thats a different story. And that *is* planned a ways down the road. It will, of course, require an active ALDL connection during emulation.
OBDII works very differently than OBDI.

I am getting ready to burn my first chip and I just downloaded TunerPro 3.0. I have a couple of questions to get started
1. In the flags section, what are the b1, b2, b3 etc. boxes for?
2. What do i need to do in order to turn off EGR? Will I need to do things in the flags and constants or just one or the other?
3. In order to program it for 24 lb injectors, do I just need to type 24 in the FI size constant? both for single and double fire?
4. Finally, if the box is checked in the flags, does it mean that this function is enabled or disabled?
Thanks and sorry if I am being a pain in the ***.

Not a pain in the ***, but this stuff is covered in other threads.
1) b1 = bit 1, b2 = bit 2, etc.
2) https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ht=disable+EGR
3) again, this has been covered in other threads. I have 24 lb'ers in my car and my IC is set to 23.0(something). You'll need to play with this during your tuning sessions
4) box checked means the bit is set (1), unchecked means its clear (0).

I know OBD-II works differently, but it's cool finding out what each can do and comparing the two... For a hobby tuner, the only *real* difference is terminology

I just downloaded Tunerpro and I love it!
Is there any way to make the 3D graphs display as 2D so they are easier for me to look at?
Thanks!

Don't forget that you can rotate, translate, and scale the graph using ctrl+click, shift+click, and ctrl+shift+click.
That should cover just about all angles (literally). ;-)

Ok, forgive my ignorance, but am I understanding this right?
But, do you need Tuner Pro RT to use the scanner capabilty ? Or will the free version scan like ex... Datamaster does?

You need the RT version for emulation and ALDL monitoring. If you have a '165 or '730 (at the moment those are the only two I have definitions created for), a cable, and time to test it out, PM me.

Okay I'm used to reading the 3D now so it's no problem.
I am having trouble finding the base fuel map in the ECU definitions. Is there a base fuel table? If so then what is it named?
