A new personal best time was set for me on 10/26. Keep in mind that this is an all steel car that weighs 3350 lbs, has a full interior, mufflers, running on Sunoco 94 octane fuel:

Take note how far past the white stripe (starting line) I am in the first pic. This thing really carried the front wheels some distance. It hooked surprisingly well for a 50 degree F. overcast day.

Here's more details on the run:

60 ft. time: 1.299
1/8 mile time: 6.129
1/8 mile speed: 114.76 mph

and you already know the rest...

I knew someone would eventually catch that. I still can't figure what caused it. I was cutting pretty consistent lights in the .420 to .440 range throughout the day. The timeslip on that pass showed a RT of .475 (anything .399 or under would have been foul).

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Is your car back halved to fit those big slicks? If so could you post some pics of that.

The car has been back-halved and tubbed. It now has a 2x3" frame (tied in to the stock front subframe and goes all the way to the rear bumper) with a full chromoly roll cage. The rear suspension has 33" ladder bars with Aldan single adjustable coil-over shocks with 110 lb/in rate springs. The rear end is a Dana 60 (9 3/4" ring gear), Richmond 4.10 street gears, Strange spool, and Moser 35 spline axles. Nothing remotely stock here.

The front suspension uses Moroso trick front springs (uncut, straight out of the box), Lakewood 90/10 struts, Global West's Del-A-lum bushings in the stock control arms, and the front sway bar has been removed. This combination really helps with the weight transfer to plant the slicks to the ground, and I'd highly recommend this set-up to any serious non-back-halved car also.

onyxdawg, I'll post more pics shortly (probably in a different thread).

Thanks again for all the replies. Looks like I might have to figure out how to get the actual video footage on here for you guys!

Badass! You could knock even more ET off with some wheelie bars keeping that front end on the ground!

Good Run!

Personally, I'd rather pop the wheelie than run a better time That's my goal anyway...to pop a wheelie like that one.

Well, when you have that much money into a car that you drag race, I would think he would prefer the lower ET's !

if i had a blown, back-halfed, street-driven car, i think that i would do about anything i wanted. if that meant doing 330ft burnouts and then hangin the wheels to the 1/8 mile marker, then that's what i would do! friggin bad bird man!

Actually, a car like mine will turn it's best times with the front end about right where it's at in the first pic. To accelerate such a heavy car like mine most efficiently, it is important to get maximum weight transfer to the rear tires for traction (within the first 60 ft.), especially on a cool overcast day like it was. Just look at what the current record holding Super Stock drag cars do when they launch, which is what my car is most closely built like. Lighter, higher horsepower full tube chassis Pro Stock style cars launch most efficiently with the front tires just skimming the ground though. Regardless, I will definately be looking into getting wheelie bars, and fabricating adjustable front suspension travel limiters to fine tune and control the amount of weight transfer for different track conditions. When I was making these runs, I said to myself, If it felt like it was going to hit the rear bumper, I was just going to just slam it into 2nd gear, (to stop it from going any higher) and NOT let out of the throttle, so it wouldn't come slamming down.

I don't believe this was previously mentioned, but the rear tires are 14x32 slicks.

MrDude_1, I do drive it on the street on occassion, mostly locally and on the weekends. I've driven it twice to the annual Woodward cruise. Had some fun with a 1000cc Honda Hurricane on the I-696 service drive a while back, but I don't usually street race it. Believe it or not, most cops I've run into don't bother me (as long as I'm driving it easy, not revving the engine, etc), but they will follow me for quite a while (either running my plate or hoping I'll do something illegal).
