Group Purchase On Japanese Ducted Hoods

Alright so the guy called me today.

I told him there was much interest in the hoods. I told him perhaps he could set-up a group purchase on the hoods. At the moment, he told me it was $1200 US for the hood.

However, he said he will call the guy in Japan and see what we can do since there is such an interest.

I told him I'd see how many people are interested. Basically, if you're interested, you'll have to call this guy, he will bill your credit card or something, and once you've paid you've qualified for the group purchase.

I will be finding more details out soon, he said he will be calling me back.

So, who is interested? I told him there was interest in the carbon fibre air intakes too.

So, is there about $700 taped to the underside of the hood or something? Tell me at least they give you a kiss when it's all over.

HAHAHAHAHA LMFAO!!! That is pretty good!

Actually, I would be interested in the hood.
Are these hoods set up to use the stock hood struts,
or we gotta use them pin thingies in the fronts.

Thanks,
Tommy

Easyspeed,
See what we can do to get the price to a more 'pleasant' value...such as...$800?
I love this hood, and think it is the best thing to hit 3rd gens for a long time, but I also agree with many that a price point over $1k
is crazy.

Let us know what you can do...also, if you want me to talk to the guy, I can also try negotiating with him.

Thanks,
Tommy

get me the contact number and i'll go see him personally since i'm out of detroit. i'm more then interested but not at 1200. he would be making a killing on large group distribution.

i too would be interested in the carbon fiber cover plate for the stock air induction as well.

let me know....

$1200 is deff ludicrest on a GP. or 10 or more.

somone buy one. and lend it to me. I'll make a mold and do a GP of 10 or more for the $800 -/+ range. in CF

you want em in regular glass I'll go even less.

Jeff. If you can please go look at this hood and get me some HI QUALITY Digi Pic's. Im talking good pic's like this 2592x1944 size.

.. if your already organizing a group purchase wouldn't it be alot cheaper to do it yourself and get it straight from the company in Japan? Just a thought

What do these 1200$ hoods look like? You could buy three cervini cowl hoods for that...keep one for yourself and pass the other two out to friends as gifts. lol.

Not to be a pessimist but, I do believe this calls for my favorite quote of all time for this board pertaining to group/one-off purchases......

i want one but i refuse to pay the large amount for shipping from japan. 2,000 for a hood on a thirdgen is rediculous when one can be built for 1,000 custom to ones own design here in the states.

however if the prices are more like above that's reasonable in comparison. still can't get the number to work, there are alot of shady people out of detroit so if someone is getting in contact with them let me know. i mean i'm right here it would only make sense to have someone meet with them in person.

but if not then good luck with it i guess....

So does anyone have a pic of one of these hoods? I'd like to see one.

Edit: Nvm. I found the other post about this hood. That thing is pretty badazz I think. Don't think it's worth $1200 IMO. I'd love to have one though.

I guess it COULD look ok on a lighter color car than that black one. But I don't think its worth the extra 800$ over a cervini, ASCD, or even a harwood hood. Unless you wanna be different I guess.

i will admit that in the handful of products i've seen harwood and cervini make some of the best kits with the least amount of work but for our cars in particular their styles aren't original......

That hood is nice

The only way it's going to be purchased is to get someone here in the states to make a replica of that hood....

I am in the process of talking to a fiberglass guy to modify a flat fiberglass hood to look and function like the CF one. I am probably going to go with a bolt on Harwood hood for the project since Harwood does such good work... Who would be interested?

Here is a link to the actual website for the CF hood... for pics

xlr8torz28, Harwood hoods are trash compared to a cervini hood. Trust me I have seen both. The cervini is nicer....period. And its the same price, actually it may even be cheaper.

lol....i don't think so, in fact most things on this board are more talk then anything it seems. everyone wants to do until they are called upon and then it falls apart.

i'd be interested in it but 1200 a hood is too much. i'd like to meet with the guy, figured it might help ease some of you as well as i know i'd like to have someone make personal contact with them.

however it's like pulling teeth, it isn't worth it.....good luck with it guys.

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=236140

yup.

you just have to be in constant contact with the company, and rag the crap out of people to get them to pay... and if they dont before the time limits up, throw them out and get someone else in..

funny how after they get kicked out for no money, they get the money and pay it.....:lala:

this hood thing however, has reeked of BS from the beginning.
if you're in contact, good.
post the number. not public? then PM it to me.

i'll call, get the info, and Kandied can cruise over and check it out.
but without anymore info, then you can stop posting right now.
we need to contact someone, and look at the parts. no one is going to give money for somthing thats not there.

if he needs it for the hood to get here, he can give us the contact in japans info, or whatever, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

right now, we need a phone number or address.

Nope.

But this whole supposed "gp" from it's inception reeked of BS. It seems WAY to shady for any intelligent person to just send $1-2k across the waters or the nation in hopes of one day getting back a hood from people you can't even contact. Wow, that seems legit. IMHO, it's a one-off piece that was made for the car, and they see the popularity and are going to try to cash in on it. Wether it is honorably or not remains to be seen. I do hope I am wrong, but that's how it looks from here.

If you actually look at the CF air intake piece it sucks!!!! It takes air force away from the radiator and shoves it right out the top of hood. They have a K&N stuck right on the TB which puts hot air into your plenum and intake system... Now dont get me wrong I still like that hood...

it lets the air escape out from behing the radiator... instead of the hot air staying around buffeting in the engine bay, and eventually going under the car.

this way, the hot air goes up and out.. because of this, the air right behind the scoop there is cooler, and the K&N there probly gets air thats just as cool as the air that comes from the top front of the radiator (the stock intake location on camaros)

the whole design of the hood is to get the hot air ouf of the engine compartment, not to work as an air intake. you build ALOT of heat in 20laps on a road-course. thus the need for heat-extracting hoods, diff coolers, tranny coolers, PS coolers, ect.

I am talking about the CF intake piece... It is in front of the radiator! It is letting air out that should be pushed through the radiator. Now I do agree that the 2 small vents on the hood do let hot air out which is a good thing... On the new Shelby cars the heat extraction takes place after the radiator where COOL air is turned into HOT...

I was thinking that same thing... I want to take the fender vents and install them on a Fiberglass hood

The raised cowl part isnt just regular though.. it looks alot wider than a regular cowl... Like Jongbloed wide...

the one that goes over the box that used to be with the old air intake?
no, that keeps air from going up and bypassing the radiator.

if you're talking about the big air duct on the center of the hood, that is BEHIND the radiator when the hood is closed... think about it.
it lets air out thats already been thru the radiator.
