....what's the deal on rear wipers? What years? Was is an option, or part of a package?

....I'm just curious!


I think they look cool! Kinda uneccesary, but cool none the less.

 

the rear window wiper was available from 82-86.

I believe that it was always an option. Although it seems like every Berlinetta I've seen has one.

 

My 85 IROC and its ungainly, monsterous, freak-of-nature rear wiper. Note its equally goofy spray nozzle on top of the car.

I had one on my fully loaded 83 Trans-Am, i hated the way it wrecked the lines of the car. I always wanted to get rid of it but never did. after the jerk smashed into that car, it got parted and my buddy put the whole rear hatch with the wiper on his 84. And i still don't like the way it looks. but at least his car doesn't have the spray nozzle sticking off the roof.

 

I said they're kinda cool, not that I wanted one!!!

The nozzles are also good for leaking into your roof, and rusting it from the inside.

Yes James, but the fact that it's mounted on a silver '85 IROC w/5speed makes up for any rear wiper goofiness on your car!

 

True, maybe, but I still feel awkward when I'm around normal Camaros. They look and point and snicker.

The rear wiper/washer was standard on the S/E, optional on the T/A & base model birds. not sure about the camaro's.

I have the rear spoiler so the wiper does not stand out like it does on a bare hatch. Without a spoiler the wiper does kinda stickout like a sore thumb

 

Never noticed that, but it's true, it does help take the attention away from it. I really wish I had one (no squirter though). It sure would come in handy up here in New England!

 

What feeds the rear squirter? Is there a seperate reservoir and washer fluid pump in the rear, or is it all run off of the front??? Even after they did away with the rear wiper, they still used the rear hatch glass that was cut for it. We have parted out 3-4 newer than '86 Camaros and the hatch glass is cut for the wiper motor and wiper shaft......

 

The same reservoir for the front wipers feeds the rear wiper. There is a small pump located on the drivers side/rear of the engine compartment.

 

My Z28 doesnt have it, but my buddy who just bought an '83 TA has one. Never heard if it worked or not though, lol

 

That is a great idea.....run liquid thru cheap rubber lines thru the body of the car..... I LUV GM.... I bet it REALLY sux when one of those lines dryrots out.......

 

I have 1 and it doesnt do a darn thing...it repels the water but I have a non defrost hatch.....so my window is stiil foggy
