I did it YEARS ago. It's really not hard and here are the steps;
1. Remove rear seat
2. Remove carpet (it's only a zipper)
3. Trace out where you want your amp
Do you want only the cover showing or do you need to be able to remove the amp without taking the carpet cover off?
4. If you decide you can live without taking the amp out (wires are a pain anyways) then trace only the top of your amp giving the feet something to mount too.
5. Cut the hole in the plastic (foam has been removed obviously)
6. Build strips of wood or mdf to hold your amp at the correct depth from flush with the back seat (wood will be better because it won't split)
7. Use large wood screws and tap into the plastic itself, it's soft but if the threads are large enough it'll hold very well
8. Cut the cover and foam the way you need too and run wires
That's it. Check out my website for pictures.

thanks dude, I actually have your site already in my favorites, just forgot about it. I know I think I want the amp or amps behind plexiglass, and having a neon glow show there. however I like how the amps in ur situation are nice and flush with the seta

You're welcome.
I used to be more for the flash than the go but when my stereo got stolen I wanted stealth. The plexi is a good idea but if you don't want your rear passengers to complain too much try and keep is as thin as possible. I cut the foam into a 1" thick piece and put it back ontop of the amp so nobody can tell it's there when they sit down.
Kickpanels are the only thing giving my stereo away.

man I love those pics of your amps!! I wonder if you cut out a nice little spot in the middle, and mounted a single amp, you could avoid people feeling the amps in the seats... it would be a shame it actually hurt the passengers...
How deep can you make the amplifier hole and still keep it from feeling like crap?

Hey do you guys have any problems with the amps overheating being in such an enclosed space? It seems like they'd overheat for sure, but then again, mine is in direct sunlight all day long as it stands right now so maybe it'd be about the same.

most amps don't have problems overheating no matter where you put them... just make sure your amps aren't really hot-running amps before you go through the work to do this... if you are looking at buying new amps, see if the reviews say its a cool or hot amp....
also, if I mount it as flush as possible, do you know an estimate of how much the amp can protrude from the seat in the back to not hit the wheel-well?
Thanks, and man those amps look friggin amazing back there... I might just put some crossovers and all sorts of stuff... you can lean the seat forward just like you did and show off if you ever want to.... godlike I say, godlike.

I've never had overheating problems. Once I did when it was 100+ degrees out and my windows were up, 1pm in the afternoon, no a/c, I turn on my stereo and it started clipping after a few minutes. I drove around with the windows down and turned it back on, no problems.
Thanks again for the ego boast, lol.

I was also wondering how much space do you get between the seat and wall when the seat is in the latched position... this way I can measure how tall the amps are and use the smallest amount of space in the seat as possible, unless that doesn't matter... can you not feel it at 3 inches? I'd love to flush-mount amps in the seat, and put some plexiglass over them...

Steve, I don't know since I did this years ago. Just look and see how much room you have, the thickness of the seat minus 1" of foam. I have ~3/4 of an inch of room between the rear carpet and the amp surface so there is plenty of radiated heat to exchange with cooler air.

cool, sorry to get your mind juices flowing.... remembering that far back can give some people seizures... or at least I think it can... either way good work on the install...
one thing I wonder, is has anyone tried making the back seat "lockable," so that it cannot be opened without a key, or unlocking it somehow... that way someone just can't walk up and steal it really easy... assuming you don't have a radar sensor in your car, but that's beside the point.

i did this as well, and i cut a big enough section out to put in a plexi window. you saw around 2/3 of each amp, but without the sight of messy wires. i really need to redo part of it though; cracked the plexi, my sub amp needs to go out for repair, and i've got a decent size bird's nest of wires....
sooner or later....
