Nice driveshaft

This is the latest addition to my ride. It's an aluminum driveshaft out of a 2002 Camaro SS. I polished it as soon as I got it. It's almost too nice to put in. I highly recommend this mod if you experience high speed drivetrain vibration problems. The Ls1 driveshaft has a yoke damper on it to reduce vibration. It's stronger than the 1LE aluminum driveshafts. Notice the difference between the steel and the aluminum one

I second the upgrade motion..

Oh, and is your car auto or manual, and what kind of rear gearing?

My GTA has an auto with 3.23 gears and my old steel shaft shook me silly..

It's a 5 speed manual with 3.73 gearing. I just got back from a high speed test drive and the vibration i had before has been eliminated. AWESOME INVESTMENT!! :lala:

dude, that looks sweet as all hell. I like the way you polished it up. Now you are gonna have to get under the car like twice a week and keep it that way.

yeah no shiznit. I won't be crawling under there anytime in this lifetime. That's a one time polish job there unless I decide to sell it later on. I asked myself "Why are you polishing this if no one is going to see it?" I can flip the car on it's roof down the highway and people will say "Hey nice driveshaft"

Will this work in my 1990 GTA? I've been told by other members that it will. It still hasn't arrived yet.

Would this one be similar to the LS1 you mention or the 1LE? I'm hoping it's the LS1, but anything will be better than what I've got.

My GTA (305 5 speed) has the 3.42 rear, so the hopefully the vibrations will go away.

edit: Now that I see your pictures, I believe mine has the vibration damper on the yoke too. It is hard to tell from the photo. Hopefully it will be here in a few days.

If the Seller is giving correct information then it would be the 3" dia Aluminum dr shaft vs the 2 3/4" dia 1LE. Both would suit your needs, I have the 1LE dr shaft myself.

That's the same drive shaft I have. By the way, you're the person that outbid me on that auction.

Unfortunately, no it's not. The LS1 shafts are thinner metal and fail more often than the third gen aluminum shafts. Dia. matters, but wall thickness in this case matters more. Sad but true.

A buddy of mine has an SS dynoed at 493 rwhp and he's using the factory driveshaft. I'd say that's strong enough for me.

A buddy of mine ran uncorrected 10.70s in a 3500lb SS with a BBC and a manual pro-shifted trans Hemi 4spd and a 1LE third gen alum. driveshaft before the the Dana 60. That was with 1.3x 60 ft times and breaking the 60 ft beam with the rear tires.

Your friends driveshaft will break eventually if he runs a 6 speed and slicks, and can drive.

I'm not saying I wouldn't run an LS1 shaft... I would if it fit my car(s). For my car, I got a 3.5" alum. shaft used from someone w/ a Malibu who went from 700 to TH400. I just don't agree w/ the comment you made in your first post.

Here's a comparison shot of a polished 1LE Spicer Aluminum driveshaft I sold on ebay a few days ago and the LS1 driveshaft I just bought.

Sorry about that.

I didn't think I'd win. I had to take my son to Karate when the auction was ending, So I figured a snipper would have bumped me off.

Still waiting for it, however.

BTW, why do you have so many driveshafts? Are you polishing them and reselling them?

I wanted to get rid of the 1LE shaft so that I could buy the Ls1 shaft. I should get into shaft polishing(no pun intended) After that auction ended, I bid on another auction and lost that one as well so i contacted the seller and asked him if he had any other ones for sale which he had and I offered him $155.00 including shipping and he sold it to me.

Hmmmm....

I just won a polished LS1 drive shaft on eBay, too, from a dude in Houston. Hope I didn't mess you up. The one I got was no where near as polished looking when it came in as the auction photo, either. So maybe you got the better deal....

Have a Great Day!!!!

I've been getting alot of emails on how I polished the driveshafts. Ok here goes, I wet sand the driveshaft (sounds like a porno) with 400 grit paper and follow up with 1500 grit. If you really want to give this a mirror shine then finalize the sanding with 2000 grit afterwards. After that I used Mother's aluminum wheel polish to bring out the bling.

Honestly, why not spend time polishing something you see when it's on the car?

untill it corrodes or gets dirty, anyway. Ive heard some stories about those 1LE driveshafts. They do seem to be pretty tough.

Seeing the driveshaft dirty after use, the smile turns to a frown as the hot oil pours down your arm.

Is the 1LE driveshaft the same as the JG1-optioned driveshaft that I have in my '88 Trans Am?
