I give up - where is the EST connector???

OK guys. I need to set my timing after removing the distributor. I cleaned up my timing plate so that I can actually read it, and I put white paint on the balancer timing mark so I can see it.

But I absolutely CANNOT find the EST connector to disconnect! The manual says it is a tan wire with a black stripe on the passenger side. I have been through all the wiring over there and just can't find it. The only single wire connector I can find goes to the EGR vlave (temp?).

Please help!!!!

Try looking here by the A/C condenser on the passenger side. It might be hidden inside the wire bundle.

Got it guys! It was tucked between the two harnesses way up near the top of the engine compartment. It was invisible until I saw where to look for it.

I had initially timed it just by listening to it the other night. Today I got the timing light out and found it was timed to 7* - pretty good, huh??!!! I decided it would be OK to leave it there.

Thansk for the replies!

sp far i've heard of 3 places and i still can't find mine. i just saw the pic from the link AJ_92RS posted, then i've seen it closer to the fender rather than the firewall, and i've heard that it's behind the dist almost behind the engine itself, so if anyone has a pic of where it's at on an L69 that would help me out alot.

Hello Chio987,

Well lay your worries over its location to rest. You will be happy to know that on your car there isn't one for you to find because it doesn't apply to your engine.

LOL........grrreattt that makes me worry alittle more, bcuz when i went to check my timing i couldn't even see my mark (i marked the balancer with paint) i thought it was bcuz of the EST. the timing light should be on the #1 cyl wire, right??

the other thing is i guess i have to look down behinde the water pump to even see bcuz the PS pump and AC comp is in the way. right?

It can also be found forward of where it is in Vader's pic, by the strut tower on the passenger side.

Hello Morley,

If you and VADER are referring to the location of the by-pass connector on Chio987's car, remember that his car is a 1984 firebird with a 305 4 bbl carbed engine and has a 7 prong ignition module in it.

If you check that red wire you might find that it has 12 volts of battery power going though it because it is a fusible link.

No, just mentioning that it can be elsewhere, so if anyone else reads this in a search or whatever they will have both locations mentioned in 1 place.
