Yeah, I'm in. But to what extent is not clear...

We're going to have to find some kind of sponsorships, a location, event planning, etc. You'll need a planner, budget, volunteers, and a t-shirt.

Not a set of small tasks and really nothing that folks do impulsively. Maybe what would draw the Nor-Cal folks out would be cool prizes and a couple tanks of free, high-test gas.

thats why I started the post so we could get some Ideas of all that stuff but I think first we should set a date so we can set some dead lines

sponsorships for what? Im thinking of a meet not a gathering something with more than just 7 cars more like 20+ and organize it around test-n-tune/track days and if we get some people who are committed Im sure we could get some discounts on hotel's and the track days or what ever but we need numbers(people)

if we had enough people contributing -- what are the chances we could rent out Sears Point (Infineon Raceway) for an afternoon ? We could set up races, head to head, bracket, 1/4 mile drags, a nice road course . . .

Infineon Raceway is available on a rental basis, however, it typically must be reserved six months to one year in advance. Occasionally, there are open dates available on short notice, but not often.

The track layout is a 2.52-mile, 12-turn road course that serves as the gateway to the beautiful Sonoma Wine Country. The track also features a world famous quarter-mile drag strip.

Rates vary depending on the season and additional costs include (but are not limited to): ambulance, fire safety crew, security, turn workers and insurance. An ambulance is not included with the track rental. Infineon Raceway is located just 35 minutes north of San Francisco at the intersection of Highways 37 and 121.

If we can't get a track it might be cool to have a great america day too. They have a park to rent out.I'd probably rather have a track day though.

That sort of a meet sounds awesome, but promotion would be a very important key factor to getting the info around. Let's see, what would be a way to get thirdgenners on the west coast or Ca to be notified of the meet? They just seem so few and far between that it's hard to find a way to get info around very well. I mean, the only thirdgen enthusiasts that I know of are you guys of course and 2 others in Rocklin. I'm sure there's alot, just that even at the drag races on wednesdays there never is very many thirdgen guys/girls there.

That would be crazy to see some drifting on a road course though

I volunteer. . . I can have a site designed (free), hosted for as long as we need it (free), on a T1 backbone, and available worldwide in less than a week. Such are the perks when you own / operate your own software and internet development company .
I just left a message with Annette over at Infineon and was just waiting a call back . . .

yes, we should register a domain. . . it may be easier if I do it since you will have to submit technical, admin contact information, server ip addresses, domain name servers, and create an account with the registrar to complete registration of a domain.

Here are few available options
norcalfbodys.com is available.
norcalfbodys.org is available.
norcalthirdgen.com is available.
norcalthirdgen.org is available.
see if your own ideas for names are available here www.netsol.com

Well, renting a track exclusively for the purposes of a Thirdgen GTG looks like its gonna be way over our heads. From the link below I could easily see how it would take over 10K/day.
-- I haven't received a call back Sears Point, but I'm guessing its along the same lines.
http://www.laguna-seca.com/TrackRent...ion=RentalFees

I'll go ahead and purchase the domain and set up the site details for whatever event(s) we decide to hold. If anyone has a problem with www.norcalthirdgen.com speak now, or forever hold your peace

Ya, a nice cruise to the coast would be sweet. Perfect place for pics, not to mention what a nice drive it would be.

Another possible option is having this meet in conjuntion with *another* car club. I've got a buddy at work who has ties to Thunderhill Raceway (see other thread). If folks are interested in doing a road course at the meet this may be a good facility:

Thunderhill Raceway - Multi-use Motorsport Facility.

This track is in Willows, CA which is 1 hour North of Sac.

I'm just throwing this out as an option. I haven't investigated this fully but will do so folks are interested. There are a few things about doing a road course though... Your car has to pass a "Tech List" that ensures a minimum safety requirment and mechanical baseline (tires, no leaks, etc.).

LMK what you think.

I have a idea. I very often have cars over for doing mods at the house (no burnouts) I have had 75 cars at one of them and they are just a bunch of gear heads. the parking lot across the street can hold 250 cars. We are also going to thunderhill early 2005 for a track day. What would you think about blending in with another chevy car club that loves cars in hayward? I can bbq for a large group. At present, my 85z has a transplanted lt1 and I can share info about that too! Just an idea for sharing a spot for a meeting. Let me know what you all think?

I thought thats what I was doing

if someone wants to be on the hook for getting me the event info and updates (who, what, when, where) as updates become available it would be a good way to get involved - and lend a helping hand.
