Im going to replacing my fuel injectors prolly within the next month or so. Prolly going to replace the factory ones with something else. Any ideas as to which brand...or what lb? the motor in my car is all stock, with the exception of my ram air kit...exhaust....misc lil things like that. Thanks guys.

 

You have a 305 TPI, so with no doubt, buy the 19#/hr Ford Racing fuel injectors. They will fit just fine and are gotten at a lower price than anything else, and the quality is top notch.

 

I will shout this at you...

DO NOT BUY ACCEL INJECTORS!

I guess I must be lucky, 20K on my Accel injectors so far without a hitch.

 

I'm knockin' on wood for ya' buddy.

One went dead after about 600 miles and now the replacement just died.

 

How big are the injectors?

 

19# They are about 3 years old. Did you ever get the feeling by saying something you jinx yourself. Now I'm gonna start to worry every time I drive. I have two sets of Ford 19# injectors on deck out in the shop though. Luckily, I keep my feathers numbered for just such an occasion.

 

well thanks for the responses guys. I have a question though. When you change your injectors...did anyone have to do anything with the computer at all. adjusting anything. Someone told me that i needed to hook a labtop up to my car and look at the readings and maybe adjust the fuel with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Any thoughts on this??

 

If you are replacing your injectors with with stock replacements (ie. replacing #19 with #19) then it's just a R&R job.

PS Dont take your chance with Accel. There are an equal, if not more, number of people who have had problems than not with this brand.

 

Cool. Another question. What rate of flow does the ford 19lb injectors flow at? If i change my stock ones with ford motorsport runs...am i going to have to tinker around with a computer and mess around with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator??

I went on summit racings web site and found a set of ford injectors rated at 19lb which is what i believe that my formula has in it(correct me if im wrong please?). check out the data below.....i should be able to pull mine out..and put these in without having to fool around with the fuel pressure and stuff right? If i have to..let me know what i have to do. Tried doing a search on the net...didnt find to much though.

Ok did some more searching around and found another set. I got this info off of five0motorsports.com

These injectors are 22lbs. According to the site 88 was the last year for the 19lb inj for firebird and 89 mwas the start of the 22lbs. Heres the info.

This is what prompted me to take a chance with Accel. Bad move on my part.

No matter how many times I said "why?", Bruce Holts' reply was "I would never sell you the #19 injectors for your car". He states thats what the earlier 305's came with.

Everybody else on TGO says #19's and quite a few people have them installed with no lean problems at all.

I've never seen anything official denoting #19 for 305's personally but if you go to your local Pontiac Parts department, they'll tell you the part number and rating.

And, if you do that last part, let me know because I keep forgetting when I'm there

Well i think im getting just as confused as you are..lol...so basically if i go with the 19lb inj i should be alright and i wont have to mess around with anything right?....or should i go with the 22lb'ers?

 

I don't believe the info about the 19# injectors posted above. 19's were used on all the 305 TPI cars up through at least 1992. My 91 had them in the factory 305 TPI I pulled when I dropped in my 383 last summer.

Go with the 19# injectors and the afpr and prom stuff won't be required for your setup.

I agree, go with the 19's, and if you don't have an AFPR, now's the time to put one in.

That's what I'll be doing (not the AFPR, got one of those already )because I don't feel like putting in another Accel and having it crap out a few miles down the road.

I don't know your mechanical skills so I will say this; take your time if you are doing this job yourself. Changing the injectors is a fairly simple job but one you must pay attention to. On a side note, you might as well check if any or your intake manifold bolts are loose while your there.
