vortec heads???

vortec heads???
i am in a jam on trying to figure which vortec heads to get for my 350. it is a stock roller bottom which is going full roller.750 demon carb, rpm intake, etc.. reason why i want to stay vortec is cause i want to get the new holley 142 charger when it comes out. right now i have the plain vortec heads but plan on selling them to upgrade. i was looking at the 200 e-tecs but then i have to upsize the headers and thats another 700 i could put towards the blower. any opinions on whats the best heads for my buck. thanks for any help

i should have said this earlier but the heads i have only support up to .470 lift without having them machiced. the new engine that i am building has a cam over .500 of lift and wanted to get better heads and keep the vortec route. i plan on selling the heads i have now when i drop the new engine in. sorry for the confusion

you could get the vortec heads machined and ported to accomedate lift and little more power

Shouldn't be any confusion. Like I said you already have the right heads.
Mod them for more lift , better springs, fully port them and even move up to 2.02x 1.60" valves.
These heads will flow 245-250cfm and 190-200 ex with conventional porting work, while maintaining excellent velocity.
Something a big intake port head won't do.
Ya don't need to throw the baby out with the bath water.
just get to work on the factory Vortec heads.

What cast number are your vortecs?
I believe it is comp cams that make a beehive style valve lifter that will accomodate that amount of lift. The beehive style keeps you from having to machine the bosses down.

they are the 8060's. i got the from sdpc last winter with the manifold. it was a kit they offered. i might go that route of sending them to the machine shop but i wanted to build another engine ready to drop in. i am positive i can sell the one's on there quick. thanks guys

175cc and 205cc ports. They flow more out of the box and have the machineing already done for high lift.
The big port version has a larger exhaust port too. Should use 1/3/4" headers for it.

i have gone that route and found out that even with the beehives i would have to have the heads machined. i just don't want the down time plus i don't have a garage to work in during the winter

Sounds like you're in just way to much of a hurry.
A streetable supercharged motor needs a low compression ratio. You'd want to either switch to a large chamber head or build a motor with low compression pistons.
You have the option of getting another set of factory vortec castings and work them over properly for your new motor.
Even with the nessessary mods and porting they are a best buy.
The vortec head version for the 142 supercharger is out now.

yes i have to admit that i am in a hurry. i have a habit of that. i will probably just figure out a way to have the heads off the car to get machined. i will call brodix on the heads anyways to see what they got. thanks for all your help guys. i will keep you guys posted.

You can't build a motor in a hurry. You'll need to change the compression to run a blower. Why don't you just build a complete new blower motor, while leaving you existing motor in the car. When the blower motor is ready you can flip the motor in the car. Its way easier to sell while its still in the car and people can hear it run.

You still have to machine down the tops of the valve guides for more lift clearance reguardless of the spring.

Ahh I C. I have the same heads but I haven't had to accomodate for more lift, leaving them in stock fashion although mildly ported
I guess if you are going to have to pay for that you might as well get the whole thing done to allow for any spring. As I recall the beehive style had a large price tag.

all they are machining is the tops of the valve guides so the retainers don't hit.think my machinist quoted me $35.the pro toplines i have were machined for lift,screw in rocker studs,thicker decks,milled valve cover rails,and had the intakes gasket matched for $450 a pair bare.now that comp cams or whoever bought them out,they might be a bit more.
there was a bit of casting flash in a few of the intakes but very nice overall!
