Runner hp increase
Does anyone know how many hp SLP runners (unported) are worth? I found a set off a wrecked bird' and recently put them on.
Thanks

SLP says 20. I'd bet it's a lot closer to 10 if you're lucky. A ported or aftermarket base would help a lot too. HP isn't the whole story though. More air will give you more rpms. If you can rev another few hundred rpms before you lose power, that translates into a faster car, even if you never really picked up any "peak" hp.

Yeah, my car used to feel out of power around 5000 rpm, now it feels like the power drops off around 5200. So that extra ponies I feel from 3000 rpm to 5200 help alot.

I am curious to know how hard it was to put the slp runners on. I have a set to go on my car but haven't got around to doing it yet. Hoping to do it this week. Let me know.

It's pretty easy. Just take your time and don't strip any bolt.

if you are gonna go through the trouble of installing new runners you should port the whole setup. Just get some TPIS bigmouth gaskets and grind away. I know people say there isnt much room on the stock base for porting. You just need to be carefull, i was able to open the base up to match the TPIS bigmouth gaskets. I think it made a pretty big diffence. Track results ------> https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=308645

Yeah, those are decent times. Is it worth it to port the manifold and plenum as far as quickness goes? If it only gives me a few hp it's not worth my time, but if it really helps, I may do it.

well, I think my MPH due mostly to my ported TPI in combination with my headers and cut out. It seems that my little 305 pulls alot harder in the uper rpms. I just look at it like this.... how are those runners gonna produce much more power if they arnt the restriction. If the holes at the base end are smaller that the runners the base isnt going to magically flow more air.if you do some searches on SLP runners i think you will come to the general concensus that if left un touched along with an un touched intake, It will yield almost no power and perhaps make you slower due to turbulence. Porting doesnt have to take a million years either... I split up my work into several days in 2 hr increments. it took probably 4 hrs for the base another 4 hours on the runners and another 4 hrs on the plenum. Its not too bad if you are patient and dont need to drive your car. here are some pics of my stuff. how could this not be infinatly better than stock?
