Wheels done... what a PITA

Well, I got the new wheels and tires from a TGO member in Newark (Thanks PHAT89TA!) and rode them for a while in the silver. After discussing it with some body shops and members on this forum, I decided to take on the project of going back to the original color scheme of red/gold. This required the following materials:

Not pictured were 11 of the other Blue Boar Ales, a whole roll of masking tape, and the pain in my back jacking up the car with the stock jack and pulling all four wheels.

Anyway, I found a couple helpful threads and gents on the "Detailing" forum who had done this in the past so I took their advice.

Primer:

Spray (multiple, thin coats):

Clear coat. Reinstall. Lather, rinse, repeat 4 times. Took 2 weeks mainly because I wanted even application and uniform drying.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

I'm done for a little while now. One thing I found out is that my spare tire is for crap now. I need a replacement. Is the junkyard my best bet for this? Oh, I also found a leak in my passenger's side rear drum. Brake fluid leaking when the e-brake remains engaged overnight. The list of fixits is never cached.

Looking good mike. I Bought some trans am rims from the junk yard for 100 bucks and slap those on my car. Those rims are painted silver so i need to strip the paint and get the wheels polished. Bty my car is on sale now. Im gonna get my 4th gen in a couple of days . My friend jason is selling those 15 inch rims and tires that were on my car temporary. i believe they were on my car at the time u came over my house. The tires are 225/60/15 and have 85% thread on them. Rims are not bent and the tires are fully balanced. He's asking around 200 bucks but i think he would neg.

Definitely a great paint job, Caddy!!!! My Professional Grade Rustoleum wheels are still holding up fine (gloss black on mine), think I talked to you about doing this earlier. Been a little over 1 year on mine, close to 18 months I think. I've got two more to do this weekend, going to fronts on all four corners on my 'Bird. At least until I can see how good/bad it looks LOL

Thanks Vern.

How do your wheels wash? Simple sponge and water work fine?

Vin... you have a PM.

Well done Mike,
I like the silver rims by nature, but I guess they aren't a good fit on your car.
Like we spoke about at the gtg, the top/caps/emblems accent the gold rims nicely, so you made a good choice.
Is the bird emblem on the gas tank factory? I didn't notice that before.
Time to put a few bucks into some mods I think! Nothing crazy, just for some more pep!

I put the bird on the gas tank lid. I had it laying around and decided to use it.

~shrug~

As for some mods, I'd love a TPI but my tranny wouldn't handle it and with gas the way it is now, I am enjoying what the TBI offers on that front.
