help with finding MAF

OK, before I tear out another MAF session, Vader was right all along. I tore into my MAF and jacked it up! Obviously if stock was good enough for me I wouldn't had messed with it, so where can I find the Well's 750 cfm model? I found out Autozone has "Wells" but haven't checked the price (@holes closed at 8:52!), at Pepboys (where I have a credit card at) they told me it'd be a special order for a total of $350!! I'm not even positive it's the correct one I want. I researched that they can cost less than $200, where the heck can I get that deal?!? I tried the url's from 6 months ago with no success. Somebody please save me money!! Thanks!

Word-to-the-Wise: Don't screw with the stock MAF unless you have proper training and tools to do so!! I can't even drive my pig right now just for 3 HP.

I was informed by Wells Mfg customer service that World Discount
in Bufflo NY sells them. However: there is no listing for it on their Web page, maybe you have to phone for a special order, and I have heard the price is about $180. The phone number is on the Web site.

Bummer, I just sold my Wells MAF on EBay and took a beating (got $90) on it.

I still have my Bosch MAF with the screens removed if you want to buy it. $50, give a shout at kevin@warpten.com if interested.

Don't have much need for MAFs anymore, I converted to Speed Density.

Since you and Vader are the only ones on this site who admit having used the Wells MAF,
what are your opinions of it and did it give any gains. Not too much info out on its use and performance.

I was maxing the ECM with de-screened Bosch MAF during drag racing, running up 255 gm/sec on the ALDL data captures.

So...I grabbed a Wells for next time and did some swapping in the pits between runs. I found I was able to max the ECM with the Wells also (hitting 255 consistently) but my MPH thru the traps went up a tad on every run. I was having traction problems so I got no usable data for elapsed times...they were all over the place.

I did find my O2s went down (leaner) with the Wells at WOT and were in the ~890 range, but I had pulled a bunch of fuel out of the PE vs. RPM table tuning with the Bosch so this was not unexpected...the Wells was likely allowing more air into the engine than the Bosch did. I added back some PE fuel and the O2s came back to where I like them (910-920 average).

The data says the Wells was flowing more air. How much benefit you'd get from it depends on your setup, my specs are on the page linked in my sig if you want to compare.

If you're moving a **lot** of air, like in a hopped-up 350 or bigger displacement set up to really breathe, definitely.

If you're running a stockish L98 or 305, I wouldn't replace a working Bosch with a Wells expecting to see improvement. If your stock MAF is wasted, I'd replace it with a Wells as it's pretty much the cheapest brand-new MAF out there. Won't necessarily run any faster, but you'll have a brand-new MAF instead of a "rebuilt" piece and it's newer thick-film technology instead of the old hot wire thingy.

Dang, I've even been looking on ebay the last few days for one and never saw it! I found out there is a zero balance of MAF's in all of Abilene, Texas! Autozone today said they can't even order one because I guess their supplier stopped buying them!?!(@$%*&^) I'll try a bit more for a Wells online then I'll get a hold of ya!! Thanks!

Thanks for the info, I am running a 350 crate/see profile and
the stock Maf is original and starting to show erratic readings.
So I will give the Wells a shot.
