call me an idiot, but...

I am going to start modding my car up soon and just wanted to know something. Okay, i have planned to do my intake first, and i am going to try the ram air setup, through the fog lights.(i switch when i buy the ram air 2 hood. I am going to buy a 54mm throttle body( give suggestions about this[good names, are they worth it, etc]). I am going with either slp or edelbrock runners(more than likely slp, give comments). And a edelbrock base( what do you think???).

Now my main questiion is, can you buy an aftermarket plenum, or would i just be better off porting it out?

i would save your engine for last, that is unless you've already done suspension, exhaust, air intake, etc.

although mine is a 350, i didn't change anything on the engine itself an it's in the 12's i would think you could be in the 13's doing the same.

when you mess with the engine you comprimise everything. as well as it gets rather expensive.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd start with the cylinder heads first. IMO, they are the biggest restriction to airflow - more so than any of the parts ahead of them. With the possible exception of the factory snorkel setup.

If you're hellbent on swapping the intake parts out first, I'd recommend the Accel base and SLP runners(my setup). The Accel base because it has the largest runners(equal to a ported Edelbrock base ala TPiS) and has some meat left for porting. The SLP runners because I'm a Cheap Old Bastard at heart and runners don't come any cheaper than these. But in this case, cheap doesn't mean poor quality. The TB, being a relatively expensive mod could wait. Until you've swapped heads, the stock TB on a ported plenum will outflow what the heads will pass.

I'll second the sugg for thinking about upgrading the suspension and chassis before any engine mods tho. The factory suspension is barely adequate for hooking a stock motor's torque. And a nice stiff chassis means you don't have to listen to rattles and squeaks for a 1/2 mile after you pass over railway tracks

what are you running right now?

when you hit 11's or lower get a cage.........right now it shouldn't even be a concern.

Snowdog,

That looks very similiar in layout to a MiniRam. Prolly be easier to port-out(if need be). I couldn't find the plenum on Holley's website tho. Do you have any idea what the price of the plenum and base is?

Summit

They are talking it up about it on some other threads on this forum...
I have no clue as to the price of the plenum, but I believe the base and plenum are sold together as one part and the rails are another part.
They were talking about it like crazy, because it is such a good deal! But to be honest with you, I have no clue as to how much it is selling for. I think others would know.

Hasn't accell been making a intake like that for a while for big blocks?? Is this just a small block version of that intake setup? That is what it looks like to me. but that is a hella priced piece of equipment. I guess thanks to holly. hope it works out so it clears the hood.
