ZZ383 with TPIS Mini Ram

I just put a ZZ383 with TPIS Mini Ram, Hedman mid length headers, 32# injectors, full exhaust with Borla multi core muffler, high flow fuel pump, and Street and Performance Integrator (converts the TBI injection wiring to multi port) in my 1991 RS. It makes 389 rwhp and 403 rwtq. Some people say the Mini Ram doesn't make torque but I have almost 350 rwtq at only 2,000 rpm. Check out the attached dyno sheet.

Re: ZZ383 with TPIS Mini Ram

Nice combo you've got there! I wouldn't need nearly as much, but it's good to know that the MiniRam doesn't totally kill TQ...

Nice numbers man! What size cam are you running, or is it the stock zz383 cam?

Re: ZZ383 with TPIS Mini Ram

It is cam that came in the ZZ383. Same heads too. All I did was bolt on my intake and headers. Using stock ignition with MSD coil. I used to have same setup on a ZZ4 with hot cam and fast burn heads that did 360 rwhp and 340 rwtq.

Wow look at how flat the torque curve is. You have a lot of torque through out the whole powerband. Makes me want to get a miniram.

Your best bet would be going with a aftermarket ECU and harness kit like the holley hp efi for the tpi setup.

Damn straight!! I live like 15 min from them and have gotten a lot of help from them. More than willing to help. Helped me choose components and my 383 is a torque monster. Still have a lot to do but the test drives sure seemed good!

Re: ZZ383 with TPIS Mini Ram

I bought the Mini Ram from www.tpis.com. I'll take some pictures but it looks like an LT1 engine from a 4th Gen Camaro. It is an easy swap and can be done with the engine in the car. TPIS will give you all the parts needed.

Very nice! A lot of LS guys would like to have those numbers. And you didn't have to swap everything over. What did you have to do to pass the California smog test. I'm in CA as well so I can feel your pain with all the smog crap we have to put up with.

I'd argue that most of our cars are in better mechanical condition than the average car that's on the road today but, that makes no difference with the smog laws.

Re: ZZ383 with TPIS Mini Ram

To the OP, have you experienced any oil consumption issues that some have claimed to had with the ZZ383? Looking at buying one but reading about those issues makes me second guess. Thanks
