91 camaro build/restore C notched frame
Well finally posting my restoration. this one started its life out as a 305 tbi 5 spd rs. dont know much else for a while till somone a few years back built my car for pro-tour. Has a fairly built 350 all scat lower end balanced n such. Has a mild cam and vortech heads and intake are ported and polished, fully roller 89 motor. 5 spd Trans has a few upgrades. Most suspension has been changed to hotchkins, im gonna add a few more things. Has a set of 35'th annv seats in it but i got a nice set of 91 so im sellin those 35'th seats.
My main goal this winter and into spring will be stripping 90% or so of this car and painting underbody and firewall. Im gonna have a friend paint the body half orange and black cut buy the upper body-line. Of coarse thats not all im doing. Gonna beefup the rear end and change gears and a (ugg) limited slip. Already has a aluminum drive shaft. Putting in a umi crossmember/ relocater. Gonna pic thru the 89 t-5 new bearing and such. my buddy owns a machine shop and they have a dyno so were gonna try to squeeze out another 100 ponies or so. i want to be around 450 and i think im aroun 325-350 right now with a holley 670, not over carbed either. Bought all new pulley set up and gonna get a lighter flywheel.
Ive already replaced all the front end with moog and im gonna do all bushing and stuff with the polythane. I bought all new springs and kyb adjustable front and back.
Not doing a whole lot to the interior. Im not much fond of the 35'th seats but i do like the brackets cause the seat adjustes more, so i bought a beautiful set of 91 with the split rear and im gonna change the carpet, love the color hate the dirt. I have a sweet set of chevy gauges to install.
Im sure there is a bunch of things im forgetting to mention but i figured it was bout time to post something. besides that i will enjoy reading any input or opinions as ive never restored a car b4 but ive been wrenchin since i was 7. ive had a cppl 3rd gens but neverd did much but body n paint. So a liitle help with the electrical may be needed as the guy just left the entire tbi harness laying across the motor. I have much plans to clean up the engine compartment.

I have a lot of the same rust on my MI car, but not as bad. Looking forward to see how you tackle it.

Here's some rust repair inspiration:

Just do it right once, and you'll never need to do it again!

Re: 91 camaro build/restore
A few more pics.
Dumped the 355 got a 383 stroker pushing 520 hp. Also got rid of the t5 and bought a t56 witha weir bellhousing, so the trans will not sit at 17 degrees. Hope that goes well cause nothing else really has.
I had no plans of replacing the floorboard but hey here i am. We had a super cold winter and i had little motivation to go freeze, even tho i have a 100,000 btu heater it was still cold. So im way far behind on my project.

Re: 91 camaro build/restore
Been a while but it's been a busy summer. Got sum new pics of new floorboards, some repairs on the firewall and I c notched the frame for true duels. I was inspired by another member and he did the same. Not only did my car have more rust then I expected but it was also hit before and there were a few cracks in the tunnel I had to weld. Plus it must have been a home repair cause the dude couldn't weld for ****. Not that I'm sum great welder but I like to think I did better then him. He missed quite a few stress spots.

Re: 91 camaro build/restore
Not sure if you realize this, but My car has full welded in sub-frame connectors as well as a full 10 pnt cage that ties in the front and rear sub frames. I hope that You have at least sub-frame connectors. One of the other things not shown in my post is the plate that was made up to go over the exhaust to box in the exhaust where the x pipe went. That way it had strength again. Many years later and a lot of high speed cornering and no signs of problems. Good luck with the build. My car is a T-top car and I replaced the full floor in my car. I know how much work is involved.

Re: 91 camaro build/restore C notched frame
Been a while but I have been busy with the build. I replaced any questionable metal and patched all the factory wire harness holes but 1 behind the motor. I'm running all wires thru the frame.
It's getting a complete paint in two tone rite now. Black on top with tangerine Orange on bottom. Not sure what color to paint the motor as the engine bay will be Orange and Chevy Orange would look stoopid and black won't due either. Any suggestions?????

Looks like you're doing a great job. My 1991 Camaro is in a similar 'rusty' spot as yours was. But over in the UK a new floor pan is extremely expensive! I'm looking at about $750 for one side....shipping is not cheap lol.
It'll be great to see what she's like when finished! Keep up the great work.

Re: 91 camaro build/restore C notched frame
Well it's been a while. Went ahead and finished all metal work and c notch. Looks good. Painted por15 and cleared it. Also did the tango Orange engine bay. All new hotchkis springs, kyb adjustable shocks and struts. Moog everything else front end. Ooh and the upper panhard bar is the lowering one to fit true duels. Also went with the lowering brackets for the panhard bar. I haven't put on the sway bars yet or the wonder bar but no need to. Those are also hotchkis along with the rear control arms. I need the lca brackets still. Bolted up the new hood and fenders with the front bumper and such for the first time in almost 3 years. All new nuts bolts and u clips and it still lined up pretty good first try. NICE.

Also cracked into the t56 last weekend. Man this thing is pretty messed up. Gonna take over 1000 to fix for sure.glad I only paid a cpl hundred bucks for it. Oh BTW I've never rebuilt a trans before. But this thing is a piece of cake. Much easier then i thought.

I guess I miss understood the ?. No i bought a whole driver side floor front to wheel well. My door jamb was rusted out where it attaches to the floor and buying a new one did not come with that.

Re: 91 camaro build/restore C notched frame
So I have a lil update on my car... Things are coming together so easily. Almost like something should go wrong soon don't seem rite. Anyway since last post I've sand blasted and painted entire rear end, put on new LCA brackets, lt1 pbr brackets, and I welded the axle tubes and the lower panhard bracket. Had a friend of mine install a new limited slip with new 3.73 gears. Ive also started to tackle the wiring. It wasn't too bad either. Removed all unnecessary wires and using what I have plus some new wire to wire it the way I want to. There will be a power point under driver side dash to accommodate what used to go to the starter and all relays I'm gonna tuck in there too. Reason is I'm running all the wiring through the frame rails, the tunnel for t56 stuff, and firewall for gauges. Not my first time wiring a car up but will be the most complicated one to date. Can't forget all new stainless brake and fuel lines. Rerouted fuel lines to passenger side. Oh almost forgot the perfect launch diff cover. I can tell ya it sure wasn't perfect. Paint on it just blew off the second I started to torque it down with the new bolts I had to buy cause the dumb f***s gave me new bolts but they were so short they wouldn't even thread in, and that's no gasket....only rtv. Post more later.

Re: 91 camaro build/restore C notched frame
Sorry, it has been to long since I posted last. Work has been a lil slow since the birth of our daughter. Plus winter sucks in Michigan. But the new year has begun and I found some new motivation.
How did that t5 work out for you?
I got stuck on a bracket for the new tilton master for the hyd throw out from my Bob Weir kit. So I took a few weeks to read up on other ppls design and also the ones that are mass produced. So I made my own and it took a cpl weeks but I think it came out nice. Not perfect but fits good and that's all I can ask for. Soon as I get the motor mounts on I'm gonna try putting the motor and trans in at the same time. Hope this works.

Very cool, and congrats on the new family addition! I still haven't had the cash to have my engine finished up so that transmission is still in the crate! Hopefully this spring. Hate this V6.... haha

Re: 91 camaro build/restore C notched frame
Finally got around to assembling the clutch master and weir hydraulic throw out bearing. I primed the oil pump and installed the clutch pilot bearing. Also put the temp gauge sensor and fan sensor in. The guy who did the heads put one of the plugs (not spark plug) in so tight I ended up having to weld a 1/2 in socket to it and using big pry bar to get it out. I was so pissed. But managed to bolt up the trans. It's a weir bellhousing using a hypo 11 in clutch, I chose McLeod, and a Hayes lightened flywheel. Of coarse all new ARP bolts. Hope to get her in this week.
