Parkingbrake 'pulls through'?
He guys,
As a dutch guy I tried to give the best topic name as possible, here's my problem
When i pull the parkingbrake lever, I sometimes pull it through. Meaning that there is a point where the lever is tightend but sometimes I pull it all the way back that the lever almost points to the roof....place the lever back and pull it back gently and the brake is on.
The parkingbrake works, it has been recenlty adjusted and tightend. So that shouldn't be the case.
Anybody an idea?
Thanks
D.

Maybe the cable is coming off the cam on the bottom side of the lever? Take the console off and check to make sure there is no problem under there.

I've had this happen as well, interested in the answer. I should note that I've got one of the auto-adjusting versions found in the later cars.

Thanks scooter
I planned to take the console of this weekend and have a look. Figured, just remove and have a look, it isn't really rocketscience
When I know more, i'll report back

Re: Parkingbrake 'pulls through'?
There aren't a lot of parts to the e-brake system. What year is your car? The design changed at one point, but it is essentially the same. The only other thing I can think is that maybe one of the cables or brake mechanism is seized and the whole system is out of whack so it is only pulling on one of the two cables. The earlier system had a recall, if I remember correctly, because the e-brake would fail from lack of use. You needed to cycle it frequently to keep it working, so people with automatics it would fail because they rarely use it.

Re: Parkingbrake 'pulls through'?
My best guess is that something with the auto-adjusting system gets stuck and lets it pull up instead of actually pulling the cable properly. I can't see any way the other style of handbrake would exhibit this behavior. If I had the time I'd pull the console and try and fiddle with the moving pieces to see if I could replicate the issue, but it happens so rarely for me that I haven't bothered.

That year should indeed have the auto-adjusting mechanism so I suspect you are experiencing the same issue as I am. I'm going to be doing some exhaust work this weekend and may be pulling some of the interior to route the cable for my cutout switch, so if I have the center console off I'll take a peek at what might be going wrong.

yes, i have drums!
Tried to find the issue, no luck so far.
The problem persist though. It happens most of the time when I'm driving. Also when I have my foot on the brakepedal.
It's still bogglin' me....

Re: Parkingbrake 'pulls through'?
Well I didn't have to pull the console for my exhaust, but looks like my gear selector switch needs adjusted since the reverse lights aren't always on in reverse. So whenever I get around to doing that I'll post back with my findings.

Re: Parkingbrake 'pulls through'?
Great, keep me posted
I did some testing yesterday and this is where I'm right now
When the engine is off, complete stand still, and I pull the lever, no issues at all
When I start the engine, complete stand still, pull the lever, no issues at all
But, when I brake with the pedal, keep my foot on it (i.e. when I'm on a hill) and then pull the lever, it occasionaly pulls through. I can feel when the lever will pull through in this situation because it feels I have a little bit less resitance from the lever / mechanisme
Perhaps this helps you to!
KMP!

Re: Parkingbrake 'pulls through'? - SOLVED
Well what do ya know, I have found the solution for the parkinglever pulling through...
My car had been sitting for more then 2 years and this week I had the final Todo: Flushing Coolant and changing the breakingfluids.
After removing the fluids, tested it for 02 there was a lot water in it!
Replace the brakingfluids, pulled out all the air.
I had the issue when i used the brakepedal and the lever at the same time
The lever would pull through and would fell loose.
Now, when doing the same thing, pedal and lever, you can feel there's more resistance. And beter: no more pulling through!
So, if you have this problem, and didn't change your brakingfluids? That should do the trick
cheers
