Aluminum bodied 3rd gen ?
I know a guy who claims to have an aluminum bodied 87 IROC. He said that it's all aluminum except the floors and rockers and that there are supposedly 5 made but his is the only one that he has seen.
Does anyone have any more info on this subject ?

Highly doubt it. front bumper support, maybe. Hood... never heard of them (on camaros) yet but never know.
Take a coated magnet and stick it on his car. If it does or doesn't stick, you have your answer.

No such thing. Just idle spank-off. Ignore him and let him go on making a fool of himself, no need for you to be some kind of "fool police". Life is too short for that sort of behavior.
Offer to check all the body parts for him with a magnet.

Firehawks could have an aluminum hood. Not sure if they all go it. But hey, $40k option on top of your 20k bird in 1991-2.
Early thirdgens could have an aluminum bumper support, and the camaros could have a composite hood. Those were dropped pretty quick.

11 Hawks got the aluminum hood.
15 aluminum hoods lost from a GM warehouse
6 AL hoods I have personally seen.
2-3 I have heard about
This is since 1990 when I started diging for them.

Burden of proof is on him, not you or anyone else. Both the statement that A) he has one, and B) there are only 5 made, are false until proven.....and that's up to him to prove. I'm sure if you ask him about it, the reasons why he can't "prove" the claim will come fast and furious!
I love having a good time with people who don't know better. I told a guy I had an 89, and he started rattling off all kinds of info about an 89 his uncle had years ago. Told me how he special ordered it with the "Corvette" motor in it, and had the factory start with a t top car since they "weren't offered" on the 350 cars in 89. Ummmmm yeaaaahhhhh........ keep talking. Did you miss the part where I said I had one???? ...and then you call them on it and they argue....keeeeeeep diggin! LOL good times.

I had an Aluminum 82 Hood... I traded it for a bunch of stuff... Bruce Hawkins has it now... It was beat up, someone closed the hood on what appeared to be a softball.. so it had a nice big bump in it. I have heard rumors of race teams back in the 80's that had some Aluminum hoods, Front Fenders and Doors made for one of the race series, but that was just rumor.

Re: Aluminum bodied 3rd gen ?
I have seen the Camaro hood or two in the junkyard too... I always figured some good adhesive and some ingenuity and clamps and you could put one back together.
SMC would be a good alternative to Fiberglass because you could quickly mass produce the parts. They would heat a sheet of plastic and then formed over a mold... Fiberglass would take longer and require more molds... I would bet that the new corvettes would be a form of SMC...
