My '91 Z28
I picked this thing up last Tuesday. Its a 1991 Camaro Z28 hardtop with an LB9 and WCT5 with 131k miles.
has factory dual cats
had G92 option but now has richmond 3.73's
had posi but it seems a little worn
Repainted
20% tint (approximately)
Corvette Y2K wheels 17x8.5 and 18x9.5 with Falken FK452's 245/45/17 and 275/40/18
Edelbrock Aluminum high flow water pump
160* thermostat
Short throw shifter (I think B&M)
Cat back exhaust (unknown)
PBR rear disc brakes
New Accel 19 lb/hr injectors
Sub box for rear cargo well for 2 10" subs
There's not a squeak or rattle in the car and the doors even close perfectly overall the cars in really nice shape. There's a few things that I can nitpick and most issues will be resolved soon. The suspension is fairly shot, I'll be replacing it all with the Ground Control/KYB setup I had in my '85. Steering is a little sloppy, but I will be replacing the steering box and center link with the ones from my '85 as well and will get a bump steer kit. There's no stereo in it but I have a mostly a whole system that I got from Al awhile back that I'll install. The drivers seat a a small tear on the side bolster so I'm going to look around for some Recaro LS's and try to source the adapter brackets. Also the paint has too much orange peel for me to like it. I'm going to see if I can get someone to do a complete wet sand/clay bar/polish/wax.
Overall this is exactly the third gen I've wanted for years. The '91/'92 Z28's are by far my favorite and I love them in black

Re: My '91 Z28
Pardon my ignorance, if an LB9 is a 305, was there a factory dual cat option? Thought the dual cats were only installed on 350's. Thanks.

Re: My '91 Z28
Well there were two versions of the LB9 (TPI 305) in 91-92. One came with the peanut cam and put out 205hp, had single cat, 2.73 gears open diff, and could have T-tops. Another had a better cam that put out 235hp had dual cats, G92 (3.42 gears), Posi rear end, T-5 but came in hard top only. I have the latter of the two.
Oh and I picked it up for $3300.

Re: My '91 Z28
Actually, I just installed ground control set up with 800lb front and 200 lb rear springs with KYB adjustable shocks and struts. End result lowered it about 3.5". Tomorrow I'm going to install a TDS wonder bar and a double adjustable rod ended panhard bar.

Re: My '91 Z28
So like I said, I have a problem driving a car with 4x4 status. So I decided to raid the '85 for some parts...
So I ended up with this stuff...
I was making good time so I decided to rip some crap off the '91 as well...
It a two step process to get the car back down...
Ahh, much better 8)

It's the SLP Loudmouth 2. Designed for 4th gen's. I absolutely love the way it sounds on my car. I just received my headers so we'll see how it sounds after that.

I've already made a sound clip. It's pretty accurate to the sound but it cancels out most of the low pitch's. So you don't really get the feel of how aggressive it sounds.

Re: My '91 Z28
The "clean one" that you're referring to is the dealership where I work as a technician, CARR Chevrolet. The other green shop that you see as a background, is at my parents house. It's a 36'x24' two bay shop. My '85 is in there getting parted out. Once I clear that out I'm going to get my GTI project back up and running. then I'll fix a few things on my '86 Audi 4000s so I can flip it. Then finally I can do a build on my '80 Datsun 280zx. I have too many project cars.

Here's a couple shots of the exhaust.
Head unit.
I just installed some crystal smoked turn signals and side markers.
I also got my Dyno Don Headers recently. They're patiently waiting for me to install them.
And I also recently got myself a MOMO Milenium steering wheel. I just need to source a hub adapter so I can install it.

Re: My '91 Z28
Well I ended up lowering the car a little bit more, about a hair less than .5" up front and nearly 1" in the rear. New front fender height is 24.25" with 3" of clearance to the front K-member and I can still make it over speed bumps. I finally feel like the stance is perfect. Now I just need to get some larger spacers on their to bring to wheels out flush with the fenders or find some new wheels. I also need to get some better struts and shocks very soon. I've been looking for deals on Koni sports without much success.
I only snapped one quick dirty picture of the new ride height.
I also finally found a nice set of Recaro LS's. I got them from a local guy on VWvortex. I got a pretty dang good deal on them IMO. I'm currently trying to figure out how I'm going to adapt the factory seat rail to them in a manner that is both safe and looks somewhat professional.

Re: My '91 Z28
I removed the rear weight jack entirely. But I just raised my car back up about 1.5" and put on my SS wheels. The first autocross event is this weekend. I think I like these wheels better even though it's not as "clean" of a look. They're 17x9" with 285/40/17 Nitto NT555's front and read. I almost forgot how well these cars can handle with a wide front tire and no stagger. Unfortunately my right rear wheel is leaking from the bead. It appears that the wheel is slightly bent. I'm going to try taking the wheel off, deflating the tire, heating it up with a propane torch and trying to straighten out the bend with a brass hammer.
I also found that my engine crossmember isn't centered on the subframe. It's shifted about .5" to the passenger side. I took a bunch of measurements of all the front end body panels, subframe, etc to make sure the car is straight. This really irritates me because with how flush these wheels are, you can tell that it's very noticable.
Passenger side:
Drivers side:
I also have an idea of how I want to paint these wheels. I was thinking of having all the surfaces that are flat and facing outward to be black but leaving the sides of the spokes silver. Something like in the picture below. I didn't get time to finish taping everything off but it gets the point across.

Re: My '91 Z28
Someone on another board suggested that some shot A-arm bushing could be the culprit for the left front wheel being sunken in more. I was planning on replacing those bushing sometime soon, and possibly install some G-body A-arms to help fix the horrible scrub radius these cars have with wide wheels. I also have a popping noise coming from the left front under moderate to heavy braking only. I thought it may be the strut bushing but now I'm second guessing that. But I am 99% certain that my crossmember is off center. I had it on the rack 2 weeks ago (before i put these wheels on) and was noticing a smaller clearance between the frame rail and the crossmember on the passenger side. I'll have it back on the rack tomorrow so I'll double check that.
On another note I picked up some exhaust tubing, true duals anyone?
We installed a Corsa exhaust on a C6 Corvette today at my work and he didn't want to keep his stock exhaust so I got it for free I am actually planning on using a couple small sections to make a 2.5" to 3" merge for my y-pipe. But another reason why I got Dyno Dons dual cat Y-pipe is because it will make it easier to convert to true duals in the stock routing sometime down the road. Now I just need a 3" 45* bend, 3" straight piping and several 3 or 4 bolt flanges so I can finally install my headers. I'm entertaining the idea of using the tips as well.
