Cutting bump stop area for 10" wheels and slicks
I was wondering just how much of the plate above the bump stop can safely be removed without affecting structural integrity. I did a 12 bolt swap with disc brakes today. I've been running wheel spacers with my 10" wheels and 275/60/15 street radial pros but I wanted to eliminate them while I'm doing this. I've already BFHd some areas of the inner well. The place I'm concerned about is the hump that goes around the spring. It looks like this is some kind of reinforcement so I wanted to ask here first. Was thinking of cutting a strip as wide as the spring all the way to the top to take that hump out.

i carefully cut that area out on my car, then welded in a flat filler piece. when you cut, you'll see theres another flat piece behind the humped area, before the spring. IIRC, i drilled a few holes in the filler piece first, then aded a few plug welds to conect the 2 pieces.
found a pic of some of the area i removed before adding a plate. thought it might help?

You can cut the whole piece out on the side of the spring pocket and weld.a.flat plate.across the opening. After that is a mini tub and smaller diameter springs

just cut to 2 sheets out..thay are back to back. no need to try to save the inner sheet..it's like a soup can anyway.
they should look about like this when done. I myself used 16Gasheet steel. just to cover the opening up..

Re: Cutting bump stop area for 10" wheels and slicks
I ran 10"x 15" with 5.5 backspacing on that rearend 275/60-15 drag radials and also Hoosier 10"x26"-15 slicks with no clearance issues after the rear wheel wells were rolled for tire clearance at the fender. After that, it was good to go. I use rear springs that lower the car about 1 inch. What are the offset on your wheels? My Sig has the pic of my car with that rear and the 10"x 15" weld draglites with 5.5 back spacing with the slicks. I went to Drag radials shortly after this pic was taken.

Re: Cutting bump stop area for 10" wheels and slicks
Thanks for the replys guys. The wheels are 15x10 Jegs sport stars with 6.5" BS. I'm going to cut that piece out and weld a plate in this week. Also installing a 4pt roll bar this week as well. I've been waiting on ARP extended wheel studs for 2 weeks as everybody has been out of stock until today, Jegs finally shipped. Will update whe . Everything is installed. Thanks again!

Re: Cutting bump stop area for 10" wheels and slicks
I'm planning on cutting mine out and also narrowing my Currie 9" rear 1" to 1.5" per side as well. I have Strange double adjustable rear shocks with coil over option. Anyone running a similar setup? My car will be mainly setup for drag racing but will be also driven on the street and I'm trying to decide whether I should stay with the coil springs or switch to the coil overs?
