355 build up suggestions are welcome!
okay i just got an old 350 out of my local junkyard. it has some .030 over flat-top 4 reliefe valve pistons. cam is unknown as of now. i wanna use a set of 5.0 HO heads i have laying around because basically i have a new top end ie. heads rebuilt, new carb edelbrock i believe its a 600 ill have to check to make sure, and new edelbrock manifold dual plane performer. i wanna know if this will work so i can use it as a daily driver or just something that i can drive for now until i can get some better heads for the motor. the tranny i have a t5. also any other sugestions would be great. i have built a 350 before and it was really a nasty engine so im not new at this, but last time i had help from a friend with parts this time im on my own.

will it be to high or will it be okay to drive around. im not looking to race or anything like that now because my t5 wont hold the power im sure of it. im gonna be rebuilding the t5 and making it a world class and hopefully upgrading all the internals. but for now i just wanna be able to drive the car.

you'll need premium unleaded and octane booster every time, even if you use a cam like this one: http://www.competitionproducts.com/p...p?number=E1129 which will help with avoiding detonation. With any cam more sensible than this one, you'll still be having some detonation. After all, you'll have compression approaching 11:1.

If money is tight, just find a pair of 882 heads. If you can afford to spend $600 on a pair of heads, you have more options. Porting the heads you have isn't going to help with the compression issue.

882s are the most common 76cc heads, but 993s are another plentiful choice, though half of them cam from mexico. Still, they're both 76cc heads, and that'll get you around 9.0:1 and they're both better than 624 heads. You should be able to get a pair of heads in excellent condition for well under $300. At my local Pick-N-Pull they go for $80/pr., but condition is a matter of luck. If you go this route, choose a cam like COMP's DualEnergy255H10, or COMP's PureEnergy. If you want a little more, try the DualEnergy265H10.
