power steering

The previous owner of my Iroc put on the wrong power steering brackets, so I have to pull them off and find the ones for the car, my 85 Iroc is a 305 tpi, I also have an 89 RS tbi 305, will the brackets from the 89 work on it? Or where could I find a replacement for it because nowhere seems to sell them

Re: power steering

Well the 89 will have a serp belt set up so that wont work. Go to the junk yard, might as well swap your 85 over to serp belt style. you'll need a water pump if you go that way.

Re: power steering

I also have the incorrect brackets for my 305 TPI. Would anyone be so kind as to post a photo of their installed power steering pump? The service manual seems to indicate that a second bracket is required on the backside of the pump.
Thanks

Re: power steering

See attached for v-belt setup.

Take note of the RPO codes for A/C and without A/C.

C40/C41 = without A/C
C60/C67 = with A/C

Re: power steering

Thank you, something to go off of rather than being blind trying to fix it, since they don't sell that part anywhere im going to have to hunt for one in a junkyard or something.

Re: power steering

That 3rd .pdf is identical to the one in my firebird service manual. The front bracket is readily available online, $20 to $30 before shipping. I've not been able to find a rear bracket anywhere. I suppose I can fabricate one, but my engine has an A/C retrofit kit from Classic Auto Air which uses an adapter bracket. This may interfere with the power steering mounting brackets. When I take the plunge and try to figure it out, I will post photos and explanations of what worked and what didn't.

Re: power steering

Just got my new power steering front bracket from Classic Industries. I'll have to wing it on the rear bracket, but photos should be coming soon!

Re: power steering

PSB6.jpg: Remounting the pump. Currently attached at two points of contact shown. Need to invent something for the third point of contact off to the right side of the bracket.
PSB7.jpg: All finished. Bracket outlined in yellow.

Any questions/comments?

Re: power steering

just so some know the factory brackets can be bought from your local auto parts store still if they tell you they cant get them they are just lazy and didnt look very hard as alot of parts stores do alot you would be amazed at what oreillys or autozone can really get if they take the time to look most just enter you car in the computer and go well it dont show it must be a dealer item then you should reply have you looked in your books or called your corporate office parts specialist
i promise this i ordered one from orielly just six months ago after they told me three times they couldnt get one just took the right not lazy person to look it up
